Recorded audio is erased when I hit the stop button.

I'm attempting to record audio.  I can hear the input being played out of the speakers and can see the waveforms being created in the track.  However, when I hit stop,  the time marker returns to the beginning of the track and erases everything.  I've been through Tutorial3, setting bit depths, levels  etc.  Did I miss something?  I'm thinking there's a setting somewhere that's not.

    What gets erased? The waveform or the whole clip? Have you tried to play back the clip with straight line in it?
    The waveform is a separate picture which in itself is independent of the audio.

    Emptying your Picture Cache file might solve the problem, if it's only a matter of missing waveform video, but not if the actual audio is missing. There's also a "Redraw waveform" option somewhere, which also affects the video only.

    Make sure you don't have any Punch In-recording points defined.

    this is the problem 99% of the time when someone complains about the waveform disappearing after recording.

    The waveform gets erased leaving a flat line.  (When I hit Play, there is no sound as the marker moves.) It leaves a clip ?box? that's compressed to about an 1/8th inch wide.  When I click and drag the box wider there's a message (in the box) saying "Record x Busy" or just "Record x" where x is the number of attempts at recording.  I've cleared the picture cache before opening the project.  The punches are not set (no red markers).   Still same ol' thing.  However, I'm still smiling.  A response of any kind is encouraging

    is this your first attempt to use the program?

    You haven't listed which version of MC you have (Or even if you have MC!)

    if MC5, go to OPTIONS>AUDIO> and change to MME driver mode since you're using your onboard soundcard
    let the wave profiler run.

    try your recording again.
