Can I recover a "lost" cwp file?

Long story short, I have over-written a cwp file with a blank template, ARGH!
I still have all the audio in the audio folder, but getting it all put back where it belongs; YIKES!

Is there any chance the original cwp still lives somewhere?

I'm guessing this is a kind of "forensics" thing.
Did windows change the name of the old file and its still there, or did the "Save As" over write to the same address?

my guess is save as overwrote the file.  I hope someone chimes in otherwise because I have done save as before and wished I didn't

It depends on the name.  In most programs like Word, PP, etc., if you do a "save as" under a DIFFERENT name (key), it is saved as a completely different file with the "last saved" version of the original file still under the original name.  But it may be different in Cake products.  Sorry, don't have it any longer on my work computer else I'd check.

From the sounds of it, you can't find the original named file?

    Good luck Tom!

Maybe I need to be bit more clear.
A template was created that then was saved, using "Save As", the lost file name.
So it indeed did "over-write" my "lost" cwp.
If I had just done a "Save As" from the "lost" cwp, I would still have the original.

    Am I making myself clear?

sounds like you're SOL, Tom.    you can create a new project and move all of the audio files into the new project like you already realize - but other than that, there's no way to recover from that type of error.

    Sharp,
I've thought about that, but does restore change files?
Or is it just a registry thing?

Did you have versioning turned on?  If so bring up the file and then go to the main File menu and down to "Revert" and see if you still have an older version you can access.

I think versioning would be in the project file, so if the project file has been overwritten then I think so would the versioning information.
I don't use versioning, so I could be worng about how that works - I just use my own manual versioning (save as).

Does versioning create a frozen old project file ?.
If so then you may be in luck.

Otherwise I'd guess - unless you have a backup copy of the project file somewhere, you're probably screwed.

Windows system restore won't help - it doesn't copy application files at all.

Hope you can find a way back.

    Cheers - Cliff

Doesn't that program recover only deleted files not overwritten files?

if you s aved it as a template it is likely in your templates folder as they have a different extension. eg cwt for project templates and cwx for track templates.
