Little help recording with distortion please

Hi all i recentlz bought myself a roland duo capture and am using it on a windows pc with sonar le, im only going to be using it for guitars, i just need a nudge in the right direction, i want to be able to record with half decent metal distortion, ideally i would like to be able to hear the distortion as i play but i will settle for applying the distortion post-recording if it is not possible. I cant for the life of me work out how to add any effects besides the chorus/delay effects that are built into sonar, i used to use guitar rig 2 standalone and had no problems (besides the quality) if somebody could post me a quick noobs guide i would really appreciate it, thanks

    Welcome to the forum.
Right-click in the audio track's effects (FX) bin and see if you have a distortion effect. If so, select it and the distortion will be applied to the output. It won't actually be recorded, though.
To hear the effect in real-time, click the Input Echo button in the track. Some adjustments to the Roland may be needed to reduce any latency you might experience.

(In case I'm misinterpreting, ignore this)
Do you mean you're now recording clean guitar without Guitar Rig or any amp sim? If so, I don't think there are any convincing guitar distortions in LE. Using GR as a VST you'll surely get a more realistic sound.

The Input Echo button is the one that makes the FX audible in real time monitoring.
