Can't record Midi to Audio

Hi all, I'm new to Sonar,

It was working fine previously but for some reason, after I work on a project for some time, I'm unable to record MIDI tracks to audio tracks (The audio track doesn't even detect the sound, I think. The blue bar that moves when there's a sound is frozen at -29.1)

Did I accidentally press something? I'm confused.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks!

I can hear the MIDI tracks fine when it is played back, but if I try to record them, I just get a flat line.

what are you using for output of your MIDI?

why are you trying to record the MIDI output tracks?

MIDI output is going to Cakewalk TTS-1 softsynth, and I'm trying to record the electric guitar MIDI to an audio track so that I can process the electric guitar and make it sound more realistic.

but it's not necessary to record the output of the MIDI track.  you can process the output track of TTS-1 just as if it were an audio track.

or if you don't like that option and want to see a waveform picture (other than the "preview waveform" you can turn on for the output track if you want) then just freeze the track or bounce it to audio.  recording the the track to an audio track is a waste of time since bouncing or freezing accomplishes the same thing without having to actually set up a recording which would really be a pain.

Ah, but I do need to record to audio to export as mp3 eventually, right? So I still need to fix the problem. =\

Also, could you specify how you would go about freezing and bouncing to audio?

I may be doing something wrong, but bouncing gives me silence as well.

You're not trying to record on the fly are you?

    Hello King
I went to the Sonar X1 reference guide and got the following:
    p 810
    Converting MIDI to audio
The following options cover three basic MIDI setups:
If your MIDI tracks play back through a soft synth, use either the File > Export > Audio or the
Track view Tracks > Bounce to Track(s) commands (see the procedures in: “To export your soft
synth tracks as Wave, MP3, or other type files” on page 790, and “To convert your soft synth
tracks to new audio tracks” on page 789).
If your MIDI tracks play back through your sound card’s synthesizer, see the procedure below.
If your MIDI tracks play back through external MIDI modules, simply connect their analog outputs
to the inputs on your sound card, and record to new audio tracks.
    p 790
To export your soft synth tracks as Wave, MP3, or other type files
    1. Mute all tracks that you don’t want to export; make sure you don’t mute the synth track or the
audio track that the soft synth is patched into, or the MIDI track(s) that you are using as a source.
    2. Use the File > Export > Audio command.
The Export Audio dialog box appears.
    3. In the Look in field, choose the location where you want the new, exported file to be.
    4. Type a file name in the File name field.
    5. Choose the type of file, the format, and the bit depth of the new file you’re creating—for MP3 use
    16 bits.
    6. In the Mix Enables field, make sure all choices are selected.
    7. Click OK.
SONAR creates a new audio file of the type you specified. Find the file in the folder you specified,
and double-click it to listen to it.

You have to select the MIDI track and the softsynth track before you bounce to track.

Good luck with that! Why not use Dim Pro's guitars rather than the TTS-1? Just a thought.
