Mix Output Question

so... I output my MIX
1) output the MAIN OUTPUTS - wherever I hit red on main out mixer levels the mix will crackle as too hot on the playback of outputted mix
 
2) output entire mix - song sounds fine, no hot spots/crackling on playback of outputted mix
 
No problem reading the main out and fixing the the hot spots with same gain automation... just wondering why ENTIRE MIX sounds fine and MAIN OUTS does not??

    Check your routing.

    Make sure every single track points to a bus and DOESN'T get routed directly to your soundcard.
    Ditto for busses - make sure they're all routed to your Master Bus (inserted by you)
