Alternatives to UAD Plugins

Hey ,Im pretty new to the computer/DAW thing,[played rock guitar pro/recorded 25+years though] I impulsively [something you tend to do after reading tons of forum threads etc and all the conflicting info on Hardware/software]bought an i7 2630qm Dell XPS 15 L502x 8GB ram 750GB HDD.Its running X1b studio/producer[trial!?] GREAT! Only hassle was a TASCAM US600 that utterly refused to function at all!I swappedit for a UA-25EX[USB1.1!!]at 24/96 and am loving the pro channell etc. The deal is I read early on how great UAD solo/etc plugs are but as is all to well known, without expresscard slot/firewire what is,if there is an alternative especially as this Lap. has 2 USB3.0,1 e-SATA?THANKS,CHEERS.

While I own and use most of the UAD plugs (as well as many others) I'd suggest to you that you look at the FabFilter line.  You could purchase their Pro C, Pro L, Pro G, Pro Q as well as their Delay and Filter programs and still not spend near the money you'd spend on getting a comparable UAD rig.  They are incredible plugs and a great value.  HTH.

Where you come from is gone...where you thought you were goin to weren't never there...and where you are ain't no good unless you can get away from it.

Im pretty new to the computer/DAW thing

As a relative computer/DAW novice, I would suggest you first
get familiar with SONAR X1 Producer and all that it has to offer.
It comes with just about every type of plug-in you would ever need.
Once you become familiar with SONAR X1 and all it has to offer, then
you can make an informed decision on what areas are lacking for you.
For the price, SONAR X1 Producer does offer a lot of bang for the buck.

    Cheers,

    Billy Buck

Hey guys,Thanks for suggestions,I was begining to think being a new guy precluded getting an answer[gearslutz]so yeah obviously I need to do many more hours with the included effects etc.How possible is it to save an "image/own reinstallable" copy on to CDR/DVDR when a STUDIO owner[version of X1] does the "download upgrade" of X1 Producer?Meaning I bought the $199 copy of Studio with the "installation disc"Obviously with a "download upgrade" to Producer[$199 if you already own Studio]theres no disc to handily "re-install" when I do the "Dell Factory Re-Image" roll back, which Ive already done once.[Dell doesnt give you the W7 diisc, and in Australia you cant just get it like you can in the U.S.]Basiclly can you "burn an installable vesion of a download? THANKS,Cheers[still want one of those sattelite UAD boxes, apparently they take some load OFF the PCs CPU?]

The SONAR X1 Prochannel are really great! Best EQ I have heard so far. Otherwise I would recommend Nomad Factory, Waveart, Izotope, IK Multimedia T-Racks3 and SSL Native Duende. All plugins are in Native X64bit!
