updated to Windows 7 and have some minor issues
I use Sonar 7 PE, FF800, KRK Rokit5, sonica built machine, win 7 OS. when opening up projects it is telling me i am missing plugins that i used to have in my Cakewalk Bin. I seem to have lost all off my cakewalk plugins for sound effects that just said Cakewalk(effect). I still have all of the ones that have the FX(Effect name). if i did not give you enough information please nicely let me know. thanks in andvance

What was the fx you were using? if it comes with sonar 7 then make sure you select it when you install sonar 7 when it asks you what plugins you want sonar to install. If it doesn't come with sonar install that you bought or downloaded, you will need to install that plugin again. Then again if you have it installed then make sure you have the location of the vst folder in the vst scan folders list in sonar.

The first thing I would do would be to scan for new VST's in the plugin manager.

When upgrading your machine you did not go 64 bit, did you?

Sharpdion23, it was in the cakewalk effects bin and the plugins i am missing were listed below the effects in the cakewalk bin that began with FX(). so to clarify i still have the cw effects that begin with an FX but the ones that plainly just told me what the were like the delay/echo, reverb, etc. i am still seeing all the other vst's like the sonitus pack and the mastering stuff. is there a way of going back to the part of the install where it asked me to check off all of the vst's without having to uninstall and install the program again? thanks to all for their help. it is really appreciated.

IIRC the cakewalk reverb and maybe also the delay/echo is 32bit plugin, no? I had the same problem because I installed the 64 bit version of sonar and so the 32bit plugins would not work. "What if my favorite plug-in manufacturer does not provide 64-bit versions? This is where SONAR's BitBridge™ comes in. BitBridge enables the use of 32-bit VST effects and instruments in SONAR's 64-bit environment."

okay so i can live without those few effects but now i have another problem. i can play back porjects and play music and hear sound from videos but i cannot get anything recorded on through the ff800. since i am new to the windows 7 setup and a beginner in the tech world, was there something i was supposed to do other than update the FUT and Drivers for the FF800, to be able to record? i have gone into the control panel and opened up the sound icon and i see spdif, adat, analogue and line in options. i tried them all and neither worked. where am i going wrong? thanks in advance.

I don't think that Sonar 7 is really made to work with win 7- I think you need to upgrade to at least Sonar 8.5 if you want it to be compatible. Well worth it, I'd say!

Beagle, I'm about to go through the trauma of setting up an i7 Win7 64bit system with my Sonar 8.5.3 PE. Am I to understand that Bitbridge is built in to the 64-bit version of Sonar? So all of my Cake plugins will work flawlessly, including V-Vocal?

I went thru that myself a couple of months ago and it is traumatic - from the standpoint of reloading all of my software! but yes, bitbridge is built into the 64bit version of sonar. you can change bitbridge's settings if you want in the OPTIONS>AUDIO on the main tab, IIRC. but I leave it at the default setting and havn't had any problems. all cakewalk plugins should work fine in 64bit sonar. and a lot of the 3rd party synths and plugins should be fine as well - I don't have any problems with bitbridge, but others do. mostly what I see on the forums is people having problems with NI Akoustic Pianos and NI B3 and some other synths and plugins that they have to use j-bridge instead. all of mine work fine with bitbridge, tho!

That's called latency. Make sure you're using ASIO driver mode. Options-Audio-Advanced.

I think he's talking about the READ/WRITE ENABLE BUFFERS not the soundcard buffers but I still am not sure that would lower the latency directly.

If you are using WDM/KS try to run the wave profiler first to see if it fixes your problem. But like Dave said, it's good to have it as ASIO.

Beagle, you're a star, thanks mate. I've been REALLY reluctant to go through this exercise precisely because of having to reload and setup up all of my software like you had to do. I have no NI software apart from the demo GR3 that I don't use. My wife has braced herself for a weekend of swearing from me, I've no idea where she gets that idea from, I'm already practicing my calming mantra.
