In order, then, to discover the limit of deepest tones, it is necessary not only to produce very violent agitations in the air but to give these the form of simple pendular vibrations. - Hermann von Helmholtz, predicting the role of the electric bassist in 1877.

On the latest mix of The 4th of July ( http://forum.cakewalk.com/tm.aspx?m=2337928), Bapu lowered my guitar tracks by .5db, as both he and Danny thought they were a bit too loud on the choruses. Similarly, when I was mixing Rough Patch (also in Songs) I found myself nudging things in increments lower than 1 db. I guess, as Drew stated, it does depend, and I would add it depends on the song, how many tracks there are and how many tracks are in similar frequency ranges. Both of my tunes that I mentioned were pretty dense that way, and I believe that those small increments in addition to some EQ carving made a difference.

timidi ok, it's settled then. how many dbs is it from the top of a node to the bottom of a node? just wonderin. the node is only a visual cue; the actual point is the center of the node and the nodes have a resolution of 0.1dB. so I guess you could say that from the top is +0.05dB and the bottom is -0.05dB from center, but that's just a nomenclature since it doesn't really matter. they could make the visual cue of the node 5dB if they wanted and it wouldn't change the resolution that the node uses for incrementing up and down the dB scale of the volume of that track/clip.

SteveStrummerUK bapu SteveStrummerUK And a real studio I think you may be confusing CJ with Beagle? Eduardo, there is an as yet undiscovered tribe of blind and deaf pygmies living in caves three miles underground in the Amazon jungle who do not confuse CJ with our Beag Are they cannibals? (beagibals?) If Beagle visits the Amazon, should he carry a Soundblaster card with him at all times (just to be safe)?
