Anne Boleyn - medieval, instrumental

Finally some holidays for music making
I have followed the TV-series (inspiration for the middle aged ) about The Tudors and I am struck of the cruel fate of the several wives of king Henry VIII. They were accused of all sorts of scullduggery, especially if they didn't fulfill the "duties" of giving birth to male successors. Wish I had and could play on old instruments but maybe this gives some illusion the old ages. Hopefully the piano will be lifted out and replaced by a female vocal and lyrics based on the many legends from that era a long time ago.

ANNE BOLEYN

That was interesting. It would be cool to hear it performed with period correct instruments.

WOW!  a fantastic performance and written piece of music.  A stellar sounding mix on my end.  I do have a nit and thats the piano. I wish it was back a smidge  (maybe a touch more verb or space) leaving the guitars as the key instrument. But, that just my ears talking. Loved everything about this piece. KUDOS!

Chappel: Guess traditional Celtic instruments would do. Thanks for dropping by and for the comments. BTW, watch your pictures from Hat Creek on YouTube. Great music and scenery!
Kev: I am very glad you liked it! I always have less reverb on piano than on the other instruments. When the piano plays melody it should be up front and not in the background. This isn't entirely the rule here so your ideas seem reasonable. The mixing part pf a project can be so tiresome and the piano was the last part in this puzzle... but I take your ideas with me. Hopefully as said, the piano will be replaced by vocals. Thank you kindly Kev for input!

Hi equality, I like  this, a lot. Not period correct but more like a '70s English folk/rock band interpretation of  an old tune. Very enjoyable listen.

Very effective.  Like the piece a lot.  The bass sound needs some help.  It doesn't have a lot of definition.  It may just be an issue of volume.

Nice piece. Are you doubling the guitar part? It sounds like it. If so, try nudging one side forward 8 to 10'ish or milliseconds and the other back the same, to open up the center more for the piano.

Very much enjoyed listening to this piece and your outstanding musicianship. Perhaps a bit of spacing between the instruments might aid clarity but that is a very minor issue. I am sure Pentangle would have been proud to produce a piece this good (and perhaps it might have persuaded Henry to be less aggressive about producing a male heir - Elizabeth was far superior to any Tudor man!).

Very nice!  Great guitar work with a simple piano part.  You can get this piece over the top with a more elaborate piano part.

ilhansen: Mange tak! Glad you liked the bohdran too. I thought it would collide with the contra bass.
Rik: I like your thoughts of a 70's version of an old song. Thanks!
jsaras: I have looked over the bass and raise it about 1.5 dB. Perhaps it plays so much inte lower rqnge it may sound undefined? Hope it sounds better now. Thnx j!
Malcolm: I took your words and panned the guitars more to the sides. Thank you for the nice reference to the 16th century and to Elizabeth I. (Watched another episode this night in which Elizabeth swore never to get married after the death of Catherine Howard.) Have to check Pentangle out.
chasmcg: Raised the bass a little. Thanks for listening.
vechung: I agree the piano could play more complicated. Here I mostly see it as a guideline for a female vocal. Thanks V!

Panned out the guitars a little more, changed eq on them, raised the bass and a little more limitation on the master. More distinct now?

Sorry, I missed commenting back. No, there are two guitars, which I now have separated, panned out and hopefully they are more defined. Thanks anyway for listening and suggestions.

That was some fine playing there.  I'd personally like to have heard the piano a bit further back, but maybe that's just me because the guitar work was so excellent.  Maybe some EQ carving might accomplish the same thing, but, either way, very well done.

Oh, man.,.Loved this!   Sooooooo expressive in the thematic layering and instrumentation.   That bass in toward the end was just amazing stuff.  (Love that 7th chord at the end)

I downloaded and will have this in my ears often.

    Thank you for sharing!

philz: I hope to replace the piano with a vocal (not mine) I just need to put down some lyrics.   Thanks for comments Phil.

Portsmouth: Not that of sunny summer here in Sweden. If someone in GB approves of this piece it seems like I have passed the eaxam since this was thought of as Celtic/medieval tune. Thanks a lot!

Yea I agree with all the posts so far love this sort of music.  Very much like Jethro Tull, the only thing is the bass is a little muddy.  Try rolling some of the bottom end off on the bass track and maybe even do the same with the master buss, if that does not work roll some off in the lower mids.

    Great love it Peace

Thanks Ben! Jethro Tull was one of my of favourite combos in the 70's Aqualung, Thick as a brick - great albums! Thanks for good advices regarding the mix. I may try another bass, Trillian, which, as far as I know has the best sampled contras.
