    C:\Cakewalk Content\Audio Library\Samples

But, you can put them anywhere on your computer.

Sonar X2 Producer. Focusrite Saffire 6, Fender Strat, black PC for recording and mixing. That is all.

You can place them anywhere you'd like then just make a shortcut to them in the browser.

Good idea, but not as important if you have "always copy imported audio files" checked in preferences.

    I have 2 HDD's

The first one for Windows 7, Sonar 8.5/X1, and all my plug-in's.

The second one I keep all my samples on and that is where my project audio is stored also.

The ultimate setup is to have 3 HDDs 1.Windows/Sonar 2.Samples 3.Project Audio.

As for arranging the samples on the sample HDD ... that's really dealers choice and no right or wrong way, just make sure you don't make the actually samples too many folders deep. Closer to the root the better because there are some limitations with folder/file name lengths when imaging your HDD for backups.

Can't wait to hear some new material from you ... it's been a while ... :)

Greetings; I've got 3 drives in my DAW (1) system, 2) recording, 3) samples and backups). Once you get up to this kind of system, and especially if you have bus-powered audio devices, make sure you have an adquite power supply.

Once i added the third drive, my 500 Watt OCZ PSU suddenly cound't cut it, and i had to upgrade.

I once stumbled across a website that recommended the needed PSU size for a given PC configuration. You enter your system variables -- CPU type, RAM type and amount, video card, PCI devices, HDDs, etc -- and it would give back a recommended minimum PSU size.
...Here we go; it's called the extreme Power Supply Calculator lite v2.5, and the URL is http://extreme.outervision.com/psucalculatorlite.jsp

    Regards

    ASUS P8P67 LE/i5-2500k/8GB DDR3-1600/1 SSD (system) & 3*SATA HHDs (recording, samples, backup)/ ATI HD 6450 Silent/Win 7 Ultimate x64/RME Multiface/ UAD2/3*Creamware DSP cards on a separate PC connected via ADAT

Actually the ultimate setup is to have 3 SSD's 1.Windows/Sonar 2.Samples 3.Project Audio; which is what I have. And it rocks.

Highly recommended if you can afford it. It may be alittle overkill, but man, is it fast! Once you go SSD, you will never go back.

You're right. :) They scared me when they first came out but I've been reading they are getting more and more reliable all the time. I have an $80 credit with Newegg. I'm watching for one to go on sale. :)

i know in the drop down list in the browser there is an option to choose different kinds of samples, rex, wave, exc.im just hoping when i choose..lets say rex..that sonar finds those new rex files..not sure how it does that.

As was mentioned, if you have a lot of samples, the best case scenario is to put them on a dedicated HD.
This way... your backups for the C: (boot) HD are kept small.
If you put the samples on the C: drive, you'll back up all the samples each time...
