Why I Miss the 80s

Odd period in Music.  But a lot of it, I still love:
Lucky Number - Lene Lovich
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KnIJOO__jVo

Tom Tom Club- Booming and Zooming (with Kraftwerk video?)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PFnGJPI-Wa0
Same band - Wordy Rappinghood
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VcOPnmhk_oo

Psychedelic Furs President Gas
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f5QLQb2324c&feature=related

XTC - Anything, but this is maybe the best of the early stuff
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m6LNe3kftnA

Yeah Yeah I know - it wasn't all great.  There was the transformation of Jefferson Airplane into that POS that did We Built This City.  And prog rock pioneers Genesis became a disco band.

Remember leg warmers? Way cooler than tats and piercings

And Aerobics videos on TV?  I could watch those for hours.

I know - I was broke.  And married to the wicked witch of the west.  And we were going to blow up Russia and them us.  And there were parachute pants.

But it was a cooler period than the 10s.
I hate Small Wayne and Jayz.  In fact, I Do not care for any rap or hip hop.
The women I knew in the 80s were in their 20s.  They are in their 50s now.

What a coincidence ... I was dating her sister the wicked witch of the east at the time! Small world!

Before I started dating your x-wife's sister (LOL), I was quite happy with the 50 year olds, still am only the age gap has closed and they are no longer interested in me. ;) Probably a good thing, you know, being married now and all. *sIgH* Good thing I didn't get hitched to one of them ... whew ... they'd be in their 70's now.

Man ... make sure you don't take Google Image search off 'Moderate' when searching for pictures of leg warmers. ;) The forum will go silent for the next 10 minutes. LOL!

Remember the leg warmer 'dance' scene in Return of the Living Dead? OMG. (That one ain't on Youtube.)

I miss the unique New Wave groups--some were one-hit wonders--some had bizarre looks to attract attention:   Flock Of Seagulls(I Ran), The Monroes(What Do All The People Know), M(Pop Music), Billy Idol(White Wedding),

In one instance, I saw a group called "Our Daughter's Wedding" live.  They were an all-synth band.  Even the drums were electronic.  I could never tell who was taking a solo because they were all playing keyboards--except for the drummer.  Wait, he may have had a keyboard, too!   Their big hit was "Lawn Chairs".

I also miss the 80's because some more main-stream artists like Marshall Crenshaw, Joe Jackson, and Elvis Costello got their start back then.

Should auld acquaintance be forgot--hey, who the hell are you guys?

Sorry to differ here Jan but EC got his start in '77, maybe he took off in the '80 but I remember him from '77 on SNL.

I can accept that.  My memory isn't what it used to be.  Back in the day, I did pretty well at trivia games--especially music and entertainment.  But, I was never that great at remembering dates, or figs for that matter.    I should have looked it up.

    Thanks for the correction.

I miss the eighties because back then I had unsore knees.

    It's not unfunny.

In the 80's I didn't have diabetes, didn't have tinnitus and didn't have high blood pressure.

BUT, I didn't have a studio, I wasn't married to the perfect wife, and I didn't have my cat.

    Ah, yes, the 80's...

The decade that helped us deny that the 70's had ever devolved into a cesspool of disco...

In the 80's, I remember being shunned by a whole new breed of musicians.  I'm not saying they were wrong.  I didn't own a wig.

Oh.  You guys are talking about the 1980's.

I may have to edit my previous posts, then.

I'm an overachiever. I was 40 years younger then.

But then again, I was always a little immature.

I think I saw the Psychedelic Furs at a WNEW FM Christmas concert (probably '82).
