My MP3 is online ... I want to do a re-make .....
First I want to thank everyone who answered my first question the other night. Maybe the question I asked in this forum wasn't clear. I have an MP3 that I made myself (I'm a lady sax player). I used an old Alesis keyboard and a Mackie 1202 mixer. I have a problem with my hardware and don't know if it's worth fixing. You may be able to hear the problem (balance). I just need something simple that will play simple midi files using a few acoustic instruments. Time spent learning a program will take away from my practice time which is limited. I need to do a re-make because the MP3 was a trial run. I LOVE THE BASS SOUND! I want to add a piano sound to match. Is it possible to do using software voices? I don't need a lot of voices, just a few really good ones. (piano, bass, guitar, drums at minimum). That will keep the price down possibly? Here's the MP3 if you care to listen to it. http://soundcloud.com/debbs-alter-ego Thanks in advance for your comments!

Just sounds like a bad cable. Also, I think you should look into "Band in a Box" by PG music.

I appreciate your diagnosis of my sound and I think you're right on target. First I have to put in a new driver for my Uno 1+1. The problem might also be the Mackie (hoping one of the quarter inch "inputs" didn't go bad). I've been fiddling with it (pun intended) but haven't gotten as far as I'd like. As for Band in a Box, that's a great idea! :) Thanks again!

Don't take what I'm about to say as the gospel way to fix everything... I listened to this at work with just plain ol' little computer speakers... To start off with ... I liked what you had JUST FINE. Between 1:20 and 1:25 there's a subtle rumble BUT that was at a peak in the wave form. You had another peak between 3:47 and 3:50 but it had no rumble but the notes were higher and lighter so I'm assuming that the rumble I heard was a nuance of the instrument on a low note. Or you may have really gotten into the groove and got the instrument too close to the microphone. The background music sounded fine. If you want to bring it up, try routing your background instruments to a new stereo bus before you send it to the master, use a compressor to lift the background music. You might even want a reverb for that new bus so that your instruments sound like they are in a room in the distance rather than simply being quieter than your lead instrument. I liked it. I liked it a lot

I have a 1202 also for gigging and it is notorious for getting dirty scratchy plugs. At least mine is:) just need to wiggle the knobs a lot and go in and out with the plugs a 1000 times. should clean it up till next time. Great little mixer BTW.

Thanks Trav, First, thank you. I'm glad you liked it. :) Your ears are more refined then mine because at the two spots you mentioned I could only hear the sax lead ... but I'll listen again tomorrow to see if I can hear it. As for the other suggestions, thanks. I'm not sure what a stereo bus is. Also, I think I used some compression on this MP3, but your suggestion of having the background instruments in the background rather than softer is a good idea! Thanks! ============================== travismc1 Don't take what I'm about to say as the gospel way to fix everything... I listened to this at work with just plain ol' little computer speakers... I have dust remover spray that I bought a while back so I'll try that. The can label says: Dust remover: moisture free cleaning. Thanks

Several ways to input another bus, when you start the program, you usually have a master bus already. When you are looking at the CONSOLE or MIXER view, your normal tracks are to the left side of the screen.... then you have a divider... then the master bus, a metronome bus... to the right of that and before the next divider pick an empty slot and right click... choose insert stereo bus... it will give a generic name like bus 3 or bus 4... I usually rename mine to give me an idea of what is routed to it... PREMIX Then go to your regular tracks, and take the ones that you want to have as a background and route them through that bus. once in that bus, add a reverb or delay ... shape your sound for the pre-mix and combine with the sax in the master.

I absolutely love the sound you are getting out of your sax and this is from an Old sax "Man". I echo what Timidi says about the Band in a Box Real tracks. I'll send you a PM for email address if you want an MP3 of what you can do with it.
