[SOLVED] Nudge is slow
Whenever I nudge notes in X1b (using the number pad), there's a lag of about a second. During that time I see the little circular "waiting" symbol. At first I thought it was saving between each nudge, but when I look at the file I see that it isn't. Sonar 8.5.3 does not have this problem. Also, if I use the mouse to move a note back and forth, I don't have a delay. Any idea how to speed up nudges in X1?

Can someone please confirm whether or not nudge is slow (showing the waiting cursor) in X1?

Is this happening on all tracks or do you have Audio snap transients active on that track? If so that could be why it is slow as it would have to recalc. all the transients.

It's just a MIDI track. How would I disable Audio Snap Transients?

That may not be the problem then as the Midi track should not be a problem. In your Snap and Nudge settings do you have Follow Snap Settings. Moves the clip or note by the current snap setting set on? That may be another possibility.

Even when I turn snap completely off, I get the delay. This is just a very simple project, and my PC is fast, so this is very strange! If I open the same project in Sonar 8.5.3 and nudge a note back and forth, it happens very quickly, although I do see the "waiting" cursor flash for a tiny fraction of a second. So, the presence of the "waiting" cursor isn't much of a hint anymore. I just wonder why X1 is so slow to move notes back and forth via nudge. The delay is the same when I nudge audio clips in the track view. Is it fast for you?

With midi I am just getting a flash. With a 32 track project with 18 tracks Midi and 14 tracks of audio I can nudge all the tracks in the whole project with a 2 count. This is on a project with Audio snap enabled as well. Do you have another project you can open to see if behaves the same way?

Interesting! If I start a new project, nudge is fast. Even if I copy the MIDI data all over the place, it's fast. And when I delete almost all the MIDI data from the slow project, it's still slow. So the delay is definitely project-specific. Not only that, but with the "slow" project, I also get a 1-second delay when I copy clips, delete clips, do just about anything in the Track View. It's as if every editing action triggers some recalculations on the part of Sonar.

Something very stange: If I open the slow project, it's slow. If I then open a second, faster project, the slow project becomes fast! So a workaround for slow nudge is to open a second project within Sonar. This makes no sense!!!

Okay, I simplified my slow project until I found out what was making it slow. If I change my master bus output to my nice Delta44 sound card, it's slow. If I use my cheapie ASUS XONAR DX card, it's fast. So, the choice of audio output affects the editing delay. This is very strange. I disabled the XONAR driver, and then Sonar showed the "Reassign missing Audio Output Devices" dialog. Since my master bus was already outputting to the Delta44, I left the XONAR selected (with parentheses around it indicating it would not work), and things were fast. I re-enabled the XONAR driver, and things we slow again. I repeat the process, but this time selected the Delta44 when prompted. Things remained fast after that. Therefore, I suspect some option in the project has the XONAR selected as output. It's not the Track, since it's set to Delta44. What else could it be?

Okay, I found out what was set to XONAR; some hidden audio tracks. I wasn't seeing the, because "A" doesn't show show all tracks in X1 like it does in 8.5.3. I deleted the hidden audio tracks and the project became fast again. So, the conclusion is: If I am outputting to 2 different audio cards (e.g., XONAR and Delta44), nudge and other editing functions are slow. The solution is to only use one audio card for output.

I assume you're using the ASIO driver in Sonar. I understand ASIO doesn't support more than one card so I assume the 'constipation' was because of this.
