Software Recommendation
Greetings! I am looking for a software recommendation. Presently I am using Music Creator 4. It's a very nice program but it is missing a few capabilities I am looking for. Here they are: 1) The ability to record SysEx events. MC4 seems to be able to record these events if they are associated with a control that is adjusting a recording parameter, but I want to record some dynamically changing SysEx MIDI events in order to control some "deep" parameters in my synth. (Yes I may be doing something wrong also...) 2) The ability to edit (Copy, Cut, Paste, etc) events based on given event parameters. Example copy all note events between C3 and C4 and paste them to MIDI Channel 3. 3) The CAL programming language. This was a C like language that the old Cakewalk program had in the Windows 3.1 Cakewalk Pro version (yes now I am dating myself...in fact I had Cakewalk Pro in DOS). The feature above was also in Cakewalk Pro (bac when the company was called Twelve Tone Systems) Thanks!

Man.... that sounds pretty complicated..... Read the specs on Sonar and X1 to see if any of that applies to them. I'm just a simple user.... I like to use synths but not much interested in trying to program one...

what are you sending the sysx messages to? I'm not a MIDI guru, but I didn't know you could change sysx messages on the fly, so that's a new one on me. copy all notes between C3 and C4 - you can do that manually, or use a CAL script X1 still supports CAL scripts, but I don't think MC5 will do that (MC4 should have still supported cal, I thought, tho).

I believe I was able to capture SYS-EX's that were setup parameters for a nanopad. I believe MC4 will play them back as well, but my nanopad broke and I never got that far. I believe I set a track to record midi, started the track and then performed an operation on the software editor which sent sys-ex to the nanopad. The track captured these events. I think the events can be edited with the event-list.

I am generating sysx messages from a Edirol PCR-1 keyboard and sending them to a Yamaha TX81z sound module (4 OP FM synth). So far I have it set up so that one control sends a sysx message to adjust the AMD (Amplitude Modulation Depth) and the other one will adjust the frequency of the LFO. I also have a knob that sends a CC (Continuous Controller) data to vary the modulation of one of the Operators. That control I can record in MC5 either as a CC or Automation Data, but not the sysx. I would like to apply AMD and LFO changes in real time and have them recorded as events. I will look into X1 although I suspect the cost is more than I would want to pay. I suppose I could build a WIN 3.1 Machine and fire up the old Cakewalk... Thanks!

Mine broke because I accidentally knocked it and the usb jack came out of the NanoPad. I use a M-audio Radium-49 now.
