Help: Get Rid of this Dotted Line
Somehow I clicked somewhere I didn't mean to and now, in track view, every time I move the mouse I see an annoying dotted vertical line with the time on it. This might be useful in some case, but it is really bothering and distracting me. How does one turn that off and on? Thanks.

Isn't it cool... it turns SONAR onto a First Person Shooter.

Yeah, we need a shortcut key that makes zombies wander around the tracks.

Aim assist can be pretty obnoxious when you don't want to see it. however their are times when I use it. Keyboard shortcut "x" toggles it.

It was just a click away in 8.5.3 if you wanted it to be. I used it all the time, haven't touched it in X1 because it's too inconvenient. Heck, even the middle mouse button was customizable in 8.5.3. It defaults to del iirc. The Smart Tool is the middle button in X1. Oh how I miss my customizable toolbar in 8.5.3. There's tons of room (once you remove all the unused modules) in the X1 toolbar. Why can't they give us a customizable module to stick in the tool bar?

its actually very useful when moving clips- say a whole chorus to the next chorus section of a song after a verse- Good to have it on a shortcut though-

AIM Assist - I tried it once. Shrugged. Tried it again some time later. Shrugged again. I don't get it. I can line things up exactly the way I want without fail, and without AA's help. It's easy to move sections both small and large without it. AA dds no functionality IMHO. RB

RB I transferred some multi-track masters one time and I had to do it in groups of 4 because my tape machine, although it was 8 tracks, only had 4 outputs. It came in real handy for zooming in on the wav's and then providing a reference to line all the tracks up to. Since it was ripped from tape, the speed varied, so I had to cut the tracks every 20 seconds or so and line everything back up. It worked surprisingly well. You know, that mouse kinda looks like Larry King, especially around the shoulders area. Just as creepy too. HEHE!

Again, by default the "X" key toggles the aim assist function. How much more convenient could it be?

In X1 the Cakesters decided to remove the now time display, They have it in 8.5.3 in th TV and they also have it in X1 only in the staff view, What I have done in x1 is , I allow for the event inspector to be shown in the modules in the Control Bar, allthough that dosen't show the time of the clip when dragging and moveing the clip but it dose show you the time of the selected clip.. Aim Assit is annoying something i rarely use.. Bring back the old NOW time Display>where am I

Seriously.... you guys... I've never used keyboard shortcuts with the exception of 'save'. Why ... because it was always a mouse click right in front of me and I never had to learn shortcuts! Try to imagine this if you can, I'm a guitar player. I'm sitting here with my acoustic up to mic in the perfect position (which takes forever as you know if you've tried to get a half decent acoustic recording). I do a take, want to tweak some things, resize the screen so I can see the track I just recorded and how long it is, tweak an EQ, etc. etc. ... In 8.5 I could do all of that without moving because I could control my mouse with my right hand (I play guitar left handed although I'm right handed.) while never moving my position and keeping my left arm on my acoustic. In X1, I can't do that. I have to use shortcuts to resize, every tool I was able to utilize with a single click is now buried in a menu and in a different spot. They really need to make an optional customizable module you can stick in the Tool Bar that we can add icons/shortcuts to anything that can be bound to a key. That would make them happy because they could still put in there what they saw fit, and it would make those of us who still believe in customization happy by letting us do what we want like we could with every other version of Sonar.

Since the AIM Assist is inconveniently buried down in menus, wouldn't that indicate you probably turned it on by the keyboard shortcut? If that were the case, wouldn't being familiar with the shortcuts be advantageous? In my experience, features turning on/off by themselves is often related to me hitting a key rather than clicking on somewhere on the screen. Not to pull off topic, but as a n00b, I don't get the steadfastness to which people hold to their individual workflows. Is this because DAWs have gotten so complicated that we only have enough mental energy to learn a single way of doing things? No criticism intended, I just don't get it.

osd Since the AIM Assist is inconveniently buried down in menus, wouldn't that indicate you probably turned it on by the keyboard shortcut? If that were the case, wouldn't being familiar with the shortcuts be advantageous? The problem is, everything is a shortcut and nothing is point and click. If you purchased the DVD's of X1 (rather than download it), it actually comes with a fold out chart of the shortcuts. In other words, there's a lot of them and they know it so they gave you a chart so you wouldn't have to memorize all of them. In my experience, features turning on/off by themselves is often related to me hitting a key rather than clicking on somewhere on the screen. I agree, that's why it was nice to have all the functions on the screen to click. I actually went in to the options of 8.5 and removed a lot of key bindings just because I would hit them by accident. Not to pull off topic, but as a n00b, I don't get the steadfastness to which people hold to their individual workflows. Is this because DAWs have gotten so complicated that we only have enough mental energy to learn a single way of doing things? No criticism intended, I just don't get it. Well, here's where I'm coming from. I'm not just the recording engineer, I'm the performer as well so I don't always have two free hands. A lot of times I only have one hand free for reasons I already mentioned in my previous post and many others. So having all the buttons to click with my one free hand is crucial to me. Learning a new DAW, yeah, it takes some time but I can do it. The problem is, a very significant part of Sonar has been removed. No criticism taken. :) I wish more of these discussion would come up so we all could have a better understanding of where each of us are coming from. Thanks, Bub

Well - I am using the BCF2000 next to my MIDI keyboard. All common things like arm, mute, pan, record, volume/velocity, eq, select track etc. are just a few cm away when playing. When editing I use a lot of key short cuts and the smart tool, so editing goes very fast. I do not have the dock, inspector or browser open all the time, because they are just one key-press away. For me - it is a easy way of working, but I can only speak for myself of course... Still - I think it is a bit strange an easy solvable "problem" (just press x - "problem" solved), can lead to a discussion like this.
