Unusual PC configurations

One of the threads over on the Computer forum got me reminiscing a little bit.

Back in the early 90's I was helping a friend who owns a recording studio to set up a mastering PC and a system for replicating the master, so that the client could go to a gig and sell their CDs that they had just recorded.  For the replicating system, I wound up using two PC's and a server cabinet.  I tracked down two motherboards that had the most PCI slots AND built-in SCSI interfaces.  One was an Iwill and the other was a SuperMicro.  For some reason, I couldn't find two of the same board and we had a deadline to meet.

Anyway, built the PC and filled almost every other orifice with a Yamaha CD-R and we found some software that supported multiple CD-R's.  After the requisite amount of cussing at the SCSI parts, we eventually were able to burn 20 CD-R's at a time.

We eventually, did something similar for relplicating DVD's, but that was on a much smaller scale--only 4 at a time.  By then, the software was much more capable and easier to use.

Sorry, it got so long-winded.  Thanks for reading the whole thing.

Has anyone else had a unique configuration or use for a PC like that?

Do tell--if it doesn't violate the TOS.

I had some fun making a Radio Shack Color Computer ( a similar device to your ZX81) controlling a slide projector from the RS232 port.

I had a business requirement to have a main frame computer trigger a factory bell. I used an RS232 port. When it was discovered all I had to was send x number of characters to the port (determining the length of the trigger) I coded "Ring Ring Ring ....".
