VS100 audio spits and crackles in standalone use

I'm trying to use my VS100 for some standalone audio recording ( i.e. I'm not connecting to a computer - just using the unit on its own as a wave recorder).

I'm using a mic with phantom power to record some acoustic guitar and vocals.

When I listen to anything I've recorded, the files play back with intermittent "spits" or "bursts" of white noise at high volume. The spits seem to occur at random throughout the recordings.

Anyone know what might be causing this?

I've tried reducing the sensitivity of the input to be quite low. I've also tried with the hi-Z switch on and off.

It's very frustrating, can anyone help??

Thanks alot!

    That should not be happening.

When you record, are you monitoring exactly what is being recorded? Are you sure you are not feeding the VS-100 these anomalies?  If the input signal is clean, then something might be wrong with the VS-100. Bursts of white noise could be a faulty component somewhere. I highly doubt this is a setting, but I can't say that with 100% certainty.

    Good luck!

Don't fix it in the mix ... Fix it in the take!

Hi Benjin, welcome. You already said that that this noise occurs randomly, so I would gather it's not occurring at the same spots in the song when you play it back again, or is it happening at the same places?

    Hi there

Yes - the noises occur in the same places during playback each time. Not quite sure what is going on!

    Thanks again

the fact that it's happening at the same places would suggest that the noise is part of the recording somehow, maybe something peaked-out/distorted or possibly a cable is bad.

does this noise happen on every recording you make or just one in particular?
