X1 demo
1) So, I downloaded and installed the X1 demo. dittled with it a little then realized I gotta get some work done. So, I go to open an 8.53 project in 8.53 and find that the demo has switched my Windows XP config so that *.cwp files open with X1. First off, that's pretty friggin rude.. whatever. Anyway, so , I go to the windows 'folder options' "file types" thingy where you can change it. There it is "SONARPDR.EXE". Actually, there are 2 "SONARPDR.EXE"s. So, I change it to what looks like 8.5's logo. clik on a .cwp file in explorer, and Sonar 4 opens and of course won't load the 8.53 file. So, go back and change again by browsing to the 8.5 folder and finding the correct 8.5 "SONARPDR.EXE". Do all the stuff and Windows still thinks it's 4.0. Any ideas how to remedy this? ---------- 2) I created a restore point before installing the demo. And, exported my registry. When I uninstall X1, do I have to go so far as to use these, or, is the X1 uninstall program good enough? I'm sure Windows will come up with all the shared things and ask me if I want to delete/uninstall those too. What do I do then. As for my first look at X1 all I can say is LOL........

I would recommend rolling back to your last system restore point Pre-X1 if you want to cut your losses.

You know, that SONARPDR.EXE file gives you even further headaches if you are a power tweaker. You can set custom profiles for your video card to enable/disable certain graphics features when you load a particular .EXE file. Well, since Sonar uses the same name for every version, you can only have one profile. So, if you have X1 x86 and x64 and say, 8.5.3 x86 and x64 ... you can only have a profile for one of them. Good thing you did a restore point. I would definitely use it rather than doing an uninstall. Welcome to the world of X1 Timidi. Come on in and have a drink, the Kool Aid's fine! :)

Why are you opening projects by clicking their files, instead of opening the version of Sonar you want and opening files in that-? RB

One way you should be able to reset things so v8.5.3 opens .cwp files is to browse to a .cwp file, right click on it and chose Open With... browse to the version Sonar you want to use and select it, then make sure "Always use the selected program to open this type of file" is ticked. Dan

Why are you opening projects by clicking their files, instead of opening the version of Sonar you want and opening files in that-? it Seems more effecient to me. Especially when working on a lot of things at once. I keep an explorer window open so I can see all the different versions, extra wavs, text files, etc. easily. Thanks RB One way you should be able to reset things so v8.5.3 opens .cwp files is to browse to a .cwp file, right click on it and chose Open With... browse to the version Sonar you want to use and select it, then make sure "Always use the selected program to open this type of file" is ticked. Yea, that's what I was trying to explain. It doesn't work. It will either default to 4.0 or X1 but not 8.5. Thanks dke.

I have the same problem timidi. I don't know if this is because during the installation process I told Sonar to associate these types of files with X1 or what? I tried everything like you and others suggested to no avail--it continues to keep X1 the go to for these file types. For now I just open projects in Sonar8 when I want them in 8 and projects in X1 when I want them in X1.

rbowser Why are you opening projects by clicking their files, instead of opening the version of Sonar you want and opening files in that-? RB +1 This removes all possible ambiguity. Besides, I currently run 8.5 AND X1 - imagine how crappy it would be if each program did what it wants when opening up project files?
