Tempo change between recording and playback

I am stumped by the following problem and would appreciate some help.

I am recording a single audio track at 120 BPM, but when I play it back, the tempo is changed to somewhere in the range of 140 - 150 BPM. What starts out as 6 bars of audio finishes up as something close to 5 bars.

The clock is set to "Audio" which I understand to mean that it is deriving timing from my M-Audio FW410. In fact, the project defaults to "Audio" no matter what I try to set it to.

What am I missing here?

Knowledge, grounded on accuracy, aided by labour and sustained by perseverance, will finally overcome all difficulties.

It sounds like maybe you inserted a tempo change by accident.

It's easy to do, especially if you already recorded some audio, then go back and decide you need to change the tempo.

Other than that, I don't know what could cause that problem.

    Hope that helps.

Were you recording to a click?  Sounds like you were playing in free time.  You're not saying that the recording is playing back faster than you recorded it are you-?

Thanks for the assistance Bub and RB. I've solved the problem! The WDM/KS driver was the villain here.

I was recording against the metronome, but as soon as I stopped and played the track back, the length of the track "shortened" and the tempo therefore went up. I discovered by chance that changing the mixing latency altered the length of the recorded audio!! That directed my attention to the driver and after  I swapped to an ASIO driver all the grief went away. It is now behaving perfectly. :-)
