Wacky X1C idea

How about a button that basically reverts the GUI to something more like 8.5.3 ?

Just a wacky idea...........

I was wondering how long "Or just use 8.5.3 " would make an appearence.

Howzabout we have a latest/greatest Sonar (been a user for a LONG time) that gives us some semblance of GUI choices ?  To INCLUDE customization capabilities like color choices, GUI customization, etc ?

next up - how long for someone to post "Use Panups mods" - I DO and they rock !   Followed by "use Sonar Plus" - I DO and it rocks too !

However why aren't functionalities like this baked into the original version   ???

I honestly believe these three things would have made X1 the best DAW period ...

    1. Include a user customizable module for the Tool Bar with an 8.5 template.

    2. Allow color customization and include a preset that included 8.5's color scheme.

    3. Make the Pro Channel so it could be removed/disabled like every other VST.

If they would have done that and not released it with so many critical bugs (Snap To not working, highlighting clips not working, they broke Session Drummer 3 ... and the list goes on and on), they would have hit it out of the park.

I was using the mods for X1 for a while but stopped. It hasn't been on my system since the last time I formatted and reinstalled everything from my OS up. Reason being, they aren't endorsed by Cakewalk (at the moment) and X1 is so buggy I didn't want anything that could alter it on my system.

Because if they were, Cake would have to think of other things to add into "X2 - The Threat".

"X2 - The Threat" is actually a game developed by Egosoft and was released in 2003.
"X3 - Reunion" is also developed by Egosoft and was released in 2005.

Wonder if Cake knew that before naming X1? Or will they go from X1 to X4? :p

It's an interesting idea, but it would put Cake in a difficult position--admitting that the X1 GUI isn't the end-all improvement it was designed to be.

Maybe they could have done it like the GUI in Windows, when they added Aero in Win 7 (really Vista for those that were brave). One could 'toggle' the GUI features on/off for performance or personal preference reasons. But I don't think that would be possible with X1, since it looks like there were huge redesigns in the workflow as well as the presentation layers.

As someone who jumped on board with X1, I had no Sonar 8.x workflow reference, but I really feel for longtime users who had such drastic changes put upon them at once.

I have a feeling that Cakewalk will ride the X1 name for a long time. If they change the name annually it will dilute the market recognition that they really need. I'm guessing X1a, b, c,.............z

Having said that, I could be totally wrong since I only got involved in forum stuff this year. Time will tell.

I've got a wacky idea, how about adding a GRV (guitar roll view)?
Instead of piano keys, we'd have guitar strings and frets?!?

    Cakewalk by Bandlab - Win10 Pro x64 - StudioCat Platinum Studio DAW - 32 GB Ram - MOTU UltraLite-mk3
    M-Audio Keystation 88ES - Akai MPD26 (hot-rodded) - Alesis DM10 - a few guitars, a few amps
Novation Launch Control - Korg nanoKONTROL2 - PreSonus FaderPort - DAW Remote HD on iPad
    Adam A7X - Behritone C50A
PreSonus Monitor Station v2 (controlling the mons)

I thought you could (partially) do that in 8.5 by showing the guitar neck and ckicling on frets to choose note position - to add notes to the PRV or notation view.

Here is just as wacky an idea - Cakewalk take note that notation is actually useful to the average musician and improve it in such a way it could be useful to the average user. :D

Hey - I still got those games.. The whole range from "X - Beyond the Frontier" until the latest "X3 - Terran Conflict" I still enjoy them as break-away after a long session. The upcoming version is named "X - Rebirth".

So yes - the name X4 is vacant...
