What's the consensus now for indexing and Windows Search 4.0 with X1?

For DAWs what's the consensus now for using indexing and Windows Search 4.0? I'm using XP, I hear this is worse on Win7 with the HDs spinning sucking up CPUs. Most in the past were recommending disabling indexing for each HD. Somehow doing Windows updates, I ended up with Windows Search 4.0 installed. That has this thing called searchindexer.exe that's the culprit. I would see lots of HD activity and go to Windows task manager,  look under processes and see that searchindexer was sucking up memory.

I tried a few things. In MSCONFIG startup group, I unchecked Windows Search and under Services I set Windows Search to disabled and also disabled indexing. These settings seem to cause a crash problem with X1 that would happen within about 2-3 min of starting X1. The error message shows that it crashed the superior drummer module. I wonder if superior drummer depends on some of that stuff. I didn't get that immediate crash in 8.53, yet I have noticed a crash every few days or a week in 8.53 that makes me suspicious.

So I'd like to know what others are doing. Letting their HDs just spin with this searching stuff, or trying one of more of what I've done or a variation. Maybe I should simply uninstall Windows Search 4.0. My DAW has these 5 HD's 1.5 TB, 80 gig, 80 gig, 400 gig, and 1 TB. Maybe if I had a simple setup I wouldn't be having this problem with incessant searching.

Any suggestions?

Just my opinion = but I wouldn't use ANY service/function that runs in the background that steals CPU cycles unnecessarily such as "indexing" and "Windows Search".

Aside from using some CPU cycles it will be using other resources and will just take away the maximum "umph" of your DAW, so to speak.

I leave that crap stuff off always on my systems.

However, the crash you are getting may not be related to those functions.  Hard to be sure without some good debugging.

HMM Maybe you need to Get a System that allows you to install more RAM? I use windows 7 and I have the Indexer on as I found Files do not show up if Indexing is disabled and I just looked and all of my Processes Including 3 Instances of IE 9  (100 Processes total) and I am only using 26% of my Ram. I only have 50% of the total RAM I am able to Install, With the Intel i7 2630QM CPU 99% of the time I run at 20-25% Ram Usage and under 50% CPU Usage. I do of course run a Full System Scan Via Norton Security Suite Every other day with it set to Clean Internet Temp Files, Internet History, Windows Temp Files, Registry Cleanup, Disk Optimization, and of course Virus and Spyware Scans. I personally would find disabling the Indexing or Uninstalling it would be counter productive to my systems stability and Ease of Access.
Of course This is on my system with my config. On my old Desktop I think Disabling anything not Vital would of been highly recommended.
