Sonar Home Studio 4 and VST

I have SHS4, been a great program for years but im tired of my old sounds, so i went out and tried a few VST plugins. The Peavey MKIII.V dose not seem to work at all in Sonar but works as a stand alone, and Acme Gig Bar works but not real time. With Acme the interface comes up and i can play with it but i have to lay down tracks with out it [clean] and then add it like a effect. I want a Toontrack drum program but not sure if it will work. I am downloading zip files and extracting them into there own file under programs[same drive], and then running the Cakewalk VST Adapter and it only sees the Acme Gig Bar and has never seen Peavey. I have also tried to manually put the files into the VST Adapter file but with no luck, is it time to upgrade or am i not doing things right. Thanks for the help.

How could we know if it's time to upgrade if we don't know your PC specs??? Not being able to use Acme in real time is an indication of either poor sound card and/or its drivers, wrong settings or lack of CPU power. Though, you don't tell how it's behaving. What does it do when you try to record with it?

I've not heard of Peavey being guilty of "age discrimination". AFAIK it should work in version 4 as well.

SONAR PE 8.5.3, Asus P5B, 2,4 Ghz Dual Core, 4 Gb RAM, GF 7300, EMU 1820, Bluetube Pre  -  Kontakt4, Ozone, Addictive Drums, PSP Mixpack2, Melda Creative Pack, Melodyne Plugin etc.

The Peavey works as a stand alone and has a little latency, but i cant see it anywhere in cake walk when trying to record. Acme i can find in Sonar but it is under the effects bin, so when i record my giter is clean sounding and the after i record the track and then play it back dose it add the amp sim. I was not talking about hardware, i was speaking of software. The only thing my computer lacks is a sound card, i have been plugging straight into the mobo for years. I went ahead and plugged my M Audio Audiophile 192 sound card back in and am now having trouble with it, cant get no sound out of output, sound levels are moving on the interface but no sound. I have not messed with this sound card in years so it will take a day or two to get up to speed. After more reading im starting to think i have the VST ad ons files in the wrong place and will just have to play with it more. Thanks anyways but its always tuff to convey so much info.

I know you talk about software, but the software needs a computer powerful enough to work properly. Without knowing your hardware specs I have little means of evaluating the possible culprits.

I repeat my question: Why can you not use the Acme in real time? What happens if you try?

When Acme is in the FX bin, put Input Echo on to hear it. Have you really used SONAR for over five years without seeing the Input Echo Button ???

Revalver should also be put in the FX bin. Where have you tried to put it???

Many programs have a VST version separate from standalone version. Have you made sure that's not the case with Revalver?

Do you have the Audiophile selected as the Recording and Playback timing master in the Options-dialogue box? Also, do you have it's drivers selected for Input and Output and do you have the latest ASIO drivers for it?

Using ASIO drivers and Audipohile don't select the integrated soundcard for anything in SONAR.

Acme is not a stand alone, no i have never used the Echo button, never needed it as far as i know, i used the VST Adapter 4 to find ACME so that how i figured they all would work. The Revalver Demo says its a stand alone and VST. Still not sure bout the M audio card, still playing with it and yes using the ASIO drivers and disabling the onboard, seeing some threads about it not liking Intel. As for my computer, Intel E8600, 980W Antec Power Supply, 4g DD2 1066, EVGA 750i mobo. Have been using the mobo sound card hooked up to a external mixer for years and never really needed much else, drums, bass, vocals all sound good, but iv never tried to run VST's before.

Id like to say thanks Kalle, never used the echo button and that solved one of my big problems. Down loaded some other VST's and they worked right off the bat. At this point with a VST in the FX box and echo on it sounds like poop do to my mobo sound card so im now trying to hook up my M Audio sound card and having problems with it, but like i said thanks cause you got me where i needed to be with the VST working properly in SHS4. Ill probably be back in 5 years when i buy new software.

In case you can't get the M-Audio working: The integrated soundcard might work better with ASIO4ALL (free DL) drivers, MME or WASAPI. It most likely does not understand real ASIO.
