Anyone experiencing Producer X1 crashing when closing 8.5 created/edited projects?

This has happened to me several times in the few days I've had the new program.  I did not even save any changes to the project, just tried to close the project, and Producer X1 crashed.  Admittedly my system is long in the tooth, but I was told it would handle Producer X1 as well as it handled Producer 8.5, which was very well.  Per error message, file that crashed was sonarpdr.exe.

Carillon Computer: CPU: Intel Pentium 4 3.06 GHz Processor 800MHz FSB, Hyperthreading; Motherboard: Intel D875PBZ DDR400 800 MHz FSB; Memory: 4x 512MB 400Mhz DDR RAM; Windows XP Professional SP3; ATI Radeon 7000 64 MB Dual Video Card.

Thank you for any help/advice.

Who told you it would work well? Hopefully not a sales person from guitat center..
Off hand, I think the lowest recommeded pc for X1 is at least a dual core.

There is an update that may address this issue, so update to the latest X1

    Hi,
I experience the same problem that you are having whenever I load one of my original 8.5  songs into X1. I can load it in, do nothing, then exit. X1 crashes upon exiting.

My PC configuration is: Intel Quad Core Pentium, 3.2 Ghz, 800Mhx FSB, 4GB RAM, Windows XP 32 bit.

So, you are not alone !

Have you applied the updates yet ?. (X1a / X1b).

If not, you need to apply the updates first and then see what happens.

Yes and even with X1b build 255.

The workaround I have found goes something like this.
    1. load project in safe mode,
    2. only load the plugs you recognise,
    3. do not load the Sonitus EQs.
    4. Once loaded save with a new name.
    5. Exit project
    6. Then reopen the project using the new name.

    Good luck.

This has happened to me and I'm running a Quad Core i5 750 w/4GB RAM.

It corrupted one of my projects so I started opening them up in 8.5, saved them as bundles, then opened the copy of the bundle in X1. I eventually just gave up on it and only edit 8.5 projects in 8.5 now. Too risky and nerve wracking.

Backwards compatibility is out the window now with the embedded Pro Channel anyway so start working/planning accordingly.

btw ... that's a killer CPU/Mobo combo you have there Lawtunes. I ran SPE4 on that combo for years and can count on one hand the number of crashes I had.

This has been my standard working practice since I installed X1B.

There might be workarounds to load up 8.5 projects in X1, but quite honestly, I've not had much luck with any of them.

So, quite simply - finish off your 8.5 projects IN 8.5
Use X1 solely for brand new projects.

This has happened to me also.

    I run Quad core q9450 @2.66Ghz with 4Gb ram, Win XP SP3, Sonar X1b255.

Crashes on closing a modified project in X1 or just closing a project window.

Well - I know there are a few golden rules when upgrading software...

Always finish a project in the DAW(or other software) you started it in! Second rule: never, never, ever switch DAW's in the middle of a important project! Did I already say: never switch DAW's in the middle of an important project?

Every software switch is a known risk. Even Microsoft - with a LOT more developers than Cakewalk - have had a LOT of problems with files between version numbers of their software packages! And believe me -  a DAW that has to operate with a lot of plugins, parameters, drivers, etc. is more complicated than a application like a wordprocessor. Even one single plugin with a higher version number than in the original project can have unpredictable side effects. I have seen that happening with a lot of non-Cakewalk plugins too...

The advise given here is really good:  Finish the project started in 8.5 also in 8.5. Start new projects in X1. And be prepared to encounter some possible glitches if you switch version numbers in the middle of a project!

That said - until now all of my "old" projects I loaded in X1 did survive the "transplantation" very well. The only culprit was the DXi/VST "switch" of Dimension Pro in the older projects (and Dimension LE to Pro in even older projects). That was fairly easy solved tough...

I agree, and I would add, I even created any of my personal templates from scratch in X1 rather than using the ones I had created in earlier versions. I was unable to use X1 until I did this.

Thank you all for your responses.  I'll only do new projects in X1 and keep prior ones in 8.5.  I guess the difference between X1 and 8.5 is greater than between 8.5 and its predecessors, as I do not recall having such problems in working on pre-existing projects with new versions before X1.  Thanks again.

And it IS time for a new machine.  Well, maybe after a few other things ...

Yes, but only 1 out of 10 projects so far.

Strange, because it's the same CD project; same artists, same number of tracks, same plugs. Why it should therefore strike one out of 10 is beyond me.

And there is nothing wrong with your machine. It depends how many plugs and effects you use.

For simple 16 multitrack audio recording, even my atom powered netbook works.
