Reaktor Player or Reaktor 5

If one were to buy an instrument from NI, for example Razor, one would need either Reaktor Player or Reaktor 5. Now, obviously Reaktor 5 is better in many ways, but does it specifically affect the performance of the instrument (Razor) itself? If I do not purchase Reaktor 5 and only download the free Player, will I miss out on any features? Thanks for any help.

Does this mean that without Reaktor 5 I can't create my own instruments, even if I have Razor?

Reaktor player is like Kontakt player; it plays ensembles that NI produce/approve but thats it. When you buy Razor the only reason it comes with player is to use the synth.

If you had the full version of Reaktor you can build your own ensembles/edit existing ensembles. This is the main selling point. It also has a library of existing ensembles which the usefulness depends on what you need it for. :)

Some of this information is not fully correct. I use Native Instruments Prism and the Reaktor 5 player.

If you use the Reaktor 5 player on its own as a stand alone then what people have said here is correct. You can alter the sounds but cannot save them. But if you install Reaktor 5 player in your DAW and Razor or Prism inside the player and this is all running inside your DAW then you are allowed to save any edits or changes to the sounds. (but you cannot add newly edited sounds to the presets) You just save the DAW project as you normally would and next time you open it the sounds will be where you left them edited. Not as good as adding a new patch but good none the less because if you have done a killer edit on a sound you will get it back.

The full version of Reaktor does allow you to go deeper into Prism and I assume the same applies for Razor as well. But you certainly can edit and save the sounds as part of your DAW so most functions are available.

Also not sure about Razor but after an update, Prism allows you to pass audio through its modal bank and various processes which is quite spectacular to hear. ie it is allowing you to use its effects processors and parts of its synth processes to process audio. All this is also stored along with everything else in your DAW project and this is all happening within Reaktor player as well. So if you buy a full version of a synth and use it inside the player then there opportunities to edit sounds and store them etc..(using your DAW, which after all most of us do) It is a cheaper way to get close to everything you can do with that synth without having to buy the full version of Reaktor, which is still better of course but you can still get a lot done without having to do that.

I manily use the stand alone for audtioning sounds which is quite handy without having to boot up you DAW and install it all etc..
