Can't get vst effects to work with a loaded MIDI file...

So, I've been goofing around with 8-bit composing. I can easily create from scratch. However, when I load up a MIDI file I can't seem to use my TAL-bitcrusher... in fact, I can't figure out how to use any vst plug-ins on the separate tracks. The option isn't there. It seems like I should be able to do this. Basically, I want to experiment with trying different sounds for the already composed tracks. I can add in the soft synths, just not any of the effects.

Just to simplify... with I right click on the FX box, my options are limited to only MIDI Plugins > Cakewalk FX. I can't get to any of my regular effects that I use. No bit crusher, no amp emulators, no auto-tune...

Audio FX can be used on audio only, and MIDI FX on MIDI only, because MIDI is data.
You must put the audio FX on the audio output track of the soft synth.

In case I've misunderstood your post: I don't know anything about 8 bit-composing. Could that be the hindrance, just like many VSTs don't work in 64 bit??

Oh... So, when, from scratch, a Session Drummer loop is inserted is it inserted as both audio and MIDI somehow? It has both the MIDI icon and the keyboard icon together, but doesn't have the audio icon. However, I can still add the effect to my session drummer loops. That is, when I start a project from scratch and insert them. I can edit in piano roll, too.

On to the tracks I've inserted... You are correct, the current track I'm trying to add the effects to are only MIDI tracks, as they only have the MIDI icon. The other, non-MIDI effects that I want to use, are greyed out.  This is even after I open Session Drummer and assign it to the track I want to add the effects to.

Basically, I need to figure out how to get a MIDI track into the whatever kind of track all of my other Session Drummer tracks are; the ones I am able to add effects to.

All right. I figured out that when I open up Session Drummer, it creates an  instrument track (which both the keyboard and MIDI icon). I CAN add the effects there, just not to an individual track, like I can do otherwise with projects I create from scratch. I think I am slowly figuring this out... I think.

Is this correct? I have to open a soft synth, then assign it to a particular MIDI track, then I can use the effects via the opened soft synth track and not on the MIDI track itself.

So, again, my big question is... when you insert a Session Drummer track in a regular project, how is that being inserted that it lets me add effects since it is not an audio track? I'm technically confused.

I don't know how the help file of version LE is, but do check if there's tutorials. In other versions tutorial # 4 is about soft synths. Have you spent serious time with the help files?

IIRC the Session Drummer version in LE does not allow separate audio output tracks for each kitpiece.

Is there no Synth Rack in the version you have? Using "Insert soft synth" don't you get the dialogue box in  which you can choose the number of audio outputs?  Your description of inserting a soft synth sounds strange, I don't quite believe that's the way it's supposed to be done in LE.

Inserting a soft synth you can choose whether you use a Simple Instrument Track or separate MIDI- and audio tracks.

Which version of LE are you using? It's a little annoying having to milk the info drop by drop. It's good habit to put your specs in the signature.
