Does anyone know where I can get an impulse response of the parade field at West Point?

I am hoping to use Perfect Space and X1 to achieve a sense of realism that I have never before achieved.

All I need is one, maybe 2. 3 would be good.

Sorry McQ. I only have 8bit samples.

The technology did not exist when I was there.

    Hi Daryl,

Yes, If I can just find a good IR... I can take your "epic fail!" and make it sound like a drill Sergeant on the parade field.

It's gonna be like being there.

Bapu, I'm hoping for more than 8 bits. 16 might work 24 will be better.

I think you must be teasing me... I don't think it uses convolution technology.

Only if I try to explain how to set up a True Stereo patch with multiple instances of Perfect Space.

    I hope to avoid that.

    Been there. Done that.

I don't want to 'splain it either.

I think your best bet is to go there and record your own impulse response.

By the way, I've heard a gunshot makes a good impulse to sample the response of. But some guns may work better than others, so I'd suggest taking a few...

I thought maybe you were going to do your own version of the 1812 Overture that was recorded there in 1954.

I'm thinking that getting an IR of such an enormous space might be difficult, perhaps even useless. I looked it up, and it's 40 flat acres! What is the impulse response of a corn field?

All else is in doubt, so this is the truth I cling to.

Heck, I could probably settle for a canon sample.

I wonder where I could get one?

Have you listened to the link Jeff posted of the old 1954 narrative?

Back then the field sounded fairly lush and spacious... well maybe not... but it certainly had a well defined ambiance.

I'm not sure a cannon would fit in your car, which is why I recommend taking as many guns as possible. But maybe you could try putting a small one in the back seat (it's probably too heavy to lift out of the trunk).

And be sure to tell the guards at the gate that, "I have lots of impulses, but none of them are good", and "I want something that will make a big impression that everyone will remember for a long time".

For ultimate realism the parade field at West Point is the wrong venue.

The thing is... I'm not trying to do the 1812 like Jeff is.

I just had the fleeting thought that the cannon shot in the 1954 version has captured the "impulse" of the parade field at West Point.

So, I can use it on a conversation at very low mix in levels.. or maybe mix in a bit more over a shouting Sergeant... or maybe add "just enough" on some fife and drum music... you may get the idea.

I was just having fun with the realization of a happy coincidence where a single sample can have great value in two different roles.

    best regards,
    mike
