issues Recording/Playback in MC5 Driver complications

After much research and attempts I have been trying to just plainly, simply tried to record my drum set with 7 microphone inputs through my Saffire PRO 40 audio interface. I am supposed to run my audio driver through ASIO mode but then I can't find the correct inputs for my microphones, its only the left inputs, (1,3,5,7). I can't find a correct output that plays sound back in ASIO mode as well. I read on one thread that Music Creator 5 cannot record more than two tracks at once, I don't know if this is true but I wonder if that is the problem. The inputs don't work well but they do work as sound shows on the audio interface itself. I am also wondering if the audio is in an ASIO driver then that would probably mean that my output would run through the interface itself, not my computer's speakers or able to choose anything outside of the interface. All my inputs and outputs are the same in ASIO and I have tried them all but nothing seems to work. The ASIO panel button also doesn't function. I have tried to see if my AUG.ini file was corrupted but it stayed the same after I deleted a portion of it.

I haven't ever used Saffire, but that input numbering looks like you have set the recording to stereo tracks (??).

In most cases inputs are numbered like : 1/left, 2/right, 1/2stereo etc.

Microphone is a mono source, so as a rule  you record it on a mono track.

If you use the Saffire, then yes: It takes care of both input and output. If you try to use different soundcard for in and out, it usually means problems. ASIO drivers can only use one soundcard at a time.

SONAR PE 8.5.3, Asus P5B, 2,4 Ghz Dual Core, 4 Gb RAM, GF 7300, EMU 1820, Bluetube Pre  -  Kontakt4, Ozone, Addictive Drums, PSP Mixpack2, Melda Creative Pack, Melodyne Plugin etc.
The benefit of being a middle aged amateur is the low number of years of frustration ahead of you.

ASIO is the driver. When you first run MC and the Saffire, you simply select the driver as ASIO.  You should update the driver to the most recent one from the Focusrite website.

You should run the wave profiler and be sure ASIO is the driver selected.

Understand that MC only allows 2 inputs at a time.  for mics, the proper setting is mono.

Music Creator only allows 2 simultaneous inputs.  to record more than 2 inputs simultaneously you have to upgrade to Sonar X1 Essentials.

Kalle's post should have explained well enough the ASIO numbering system to you.  the right inputs are not missing - they're just named in a way that isn't logical to everyone.

you do NOT want your output to run thru the computer soundcard!!!  YOU WILL HAVE PROBLEMS trying to do that.  yes, ASIO means that the driver will only allow 1 soundcard at a time and that's a good thing because trying to use 2 soundcards, one for input and one for output, will cause sync and latency problems!  hook your speakers or headphones up to the saffire instead!

Thanks everybody that cleared a lot of things up, looks like i have wasted money on MC5...  Im sure SONAR X1 definitely has a better EQing system as well. ugh mislead by cakewalk's easy layout and easy recording  oh well.

I don't think you've wasted any money on MC5, tho.  if you need X1 you can upgrade from MC5 if you are a registered customer.  I'm pretty sure that the cost of MC5 + the cost of upgrade to X1 is still cheaper (not by a lot) than buying X1 as a new customer.

They have sent me an email stating that for MC customers X1 is now on sale for 99 bux.

BUT... unless you really need the number of inputs X1 will give you..... MC is a mighty fine DAW platform

alright so I just got sonar x1 installed and i found a 2 things that I didnt understand. 1. i can't find the input/output drop-down menu for a track, as the manual said to just drag down the track box until you find the input/output.. i couldnt see it. 2. when I want to create a new project thats blank (no tracks or buses), that option isnt avaliable  either

EDIT: i tried to add a picture but i guess it didnt work... ill try to attach a link instead.http://tinypic.com/r/29uuhsm/7

2nd EDIT: I just noticed that the inputs and outputs are the same as they are in MC5, the inputs and outputs come in as stereo pairs. I want it to be able to let me select separate channels like Left IP1/Right IP1 would be channel 1 (left IP1) and channel 2 (right IP1)

You can always open the template and delete all the tracks and busses......

I like starting with 8 audio tracks.

to add a picture to a post?  you need to copy the picture web location address and from the tool bar above the post window...select the ICON directly to the left of the smiley face.... (looks like a mountain & sun) ..paste the photo's link and click OK.  If it works, the photo should show up in your post window within a few seconds.  I use Photobucket for picture hosting.

solved the template problem i copied some templates from MC5 and pasted them into my Sonar X1 project template folder..now to find the input/output buttons for the tracks..

EDIT: solved the input/output missing buttons problem. the inputs and outputs shown in the prefrences menu (equivalent to MC5s/Sonar's Options-->Audio) are normal to be in stereo pairs and to expose the input/output button you have to click the dropdown menu above all the tracks in Sonar X1 and it says Custom, change that to all .  solution provided by fireberd
