Truck Stereo Belly Up

She decided she didnt want to work no more so my daughter and I went to Best Buy to look at them.  Me being the penny pincher I am let my daughter talk me into getting a much better one with Blue Tooth so I could actually here my cell phone when needed.  After finally deciding which one to go with accepted the fact that I didnt want to tear into my truck so I paid the extra to let them install it and give me a fast training session on how to operate with the phone and IPod features and make sure everything works.
The install was fairly simple and straight forward so I thought.  The tech walked around and checked everything out before installing to make sure there wasnt any pre-existing problems. I explained the old one just died and was just needing a new head unit installed.
After leaving, going to lunch with the daughter while they did the install, I returned to find they were having problems getting sound out of the system. I asked if he had to change a config setting in the initial setup to make sure he had the signal going to the amps driving all the speakers. He looked at me and went into the setup and made a simple change and what do ya know,  great sound. The tech finished putting it back and they were swamped so the training and setup part was unable to happen.
Once we got back home we decided to get the phone setup on blue tooth.  When I called or someone called me, the phone would recognize it and as soon as the connection was made, I would loose all sound but couldnt speak or be heard.  I thought how hard could this be?  The mic was in a good location and setup appeared to be very simple.  After panning front to rear and left to right I noticed a few things not correct.  I called Pioneers support and checked with them and they suggested checking a few things I kinda thought might be wrong on the install.  Turns out they didnt plug in the mic so I could be heard and the phone works off the front RCAs/speakers in an automobile stereo. My amp was connected on the rear.  So a quick mic plug in and swapping the RCAs on back of the head unit the the front RCA connections and the system was off and working as simple as it should have been.
So the real issue is - ya pay for a service to avoid the confusion of newer technology and get up and running faster. Techs seamed knowledgeable and professional that were assigned to install.
The reality is - I had to completely uninstall the system and redo it correctly and figure it out for myself.  The entire reason for paying for this service backfired.
Finally I can get back to playing in the yard while listening to what Im working on in X1 and hear the phone ring.  Job well done Me. (Pat myself on the back)

Last time I bought a cheap SONY CD player for my Honda Van I almost took down the service bay at Best Buy.

I wanted to do my own install... it's quicker and easier than sitting and waiting... but the "techs" decided to make fun of the "amateur" when I asked about a pre made conversion harness.

One guys says "we make all the inter connections ourselves... that's our job", and I say " yeah but the conversion harness costs like $5.99.... and all you do is plug it in... that's a great deal compared to what you clowns want to do"... or something like that. :-)

I like Best Buy just fine... but I wouldn't let them near my dash board.

Glad to hear you got it working.

    best regards,
    mike

I refuse to let Best Leave It Alone anywhere near my dashboard...we have friends here who are really professional at car audio do that work...

I shoulda took your route Mike.  Just was hoping for an easier way for the day but...  LOL
    Lesson learned
I did come away from my short stay with a lil something though.  While there I learned an easy way to control my Sony Braivia (Like your Model) with my Android Phone instead of having to fight with the remote trying to enter alpha numeric entries to get into Netflix or ???  menus...

Go to SonyCorp.com on your Smart phone and get the media controller.  If your TV is hooked to your internet you can have a keyboard setup on your phone linked to your TV so you dont have to fight the TV remote to control it.

    Hi Mike,

Yes, I'm sorry if it seemed like a lecture... I was just commiserating. It seems like using the time to have lunch with your daughter was the very best way to enjoy the day!

    best regards,
    mike

I have heard horror stories about best buys install shop (and geek squad, but thats another story for another day)

I almost pulled the trigger on a Viper remote start with iphone support for my 09 VW GTI, but after talking to the VW shop manager and finding out that the whole electricial system in on a computer buss network system, I decided against letting BB use butt and splice connectors...
