Nudge "Now Time" or equivalent?? Mouse Fast Zoom

Hello and thanks for looking.

I'll start out by saying that I am a long time user of Sonar (all versions from v2 --> v8.5, have X1 but not installed) and believe I have a pretty good handle on editing.  It is only recently that I have a rather large editing job and as a result some of my frustrations with cursor/Now TIme movement and workflow have become exacerbating.   I have used many other audio editors and they all have their quirks.  One has a tendency to get used to them.  Also, there are many ways to skin a cat and one (like myself) may not be familiar with them.  This is what brings me to this forum.  Is there a better way to skin a cat?  (I like cats; just a coloquialism...you get the idea.)

I've searched the forums for shortcuts, etc.  Editing seems to be a heady topic.

1.)
Yes, Sonar has a nudge tool for a clip, but is there a keyboard nudge "type" tool for the Now Time?  Yes, I realize there are "Go To...." " and Grid" shortcuts, but all I want is a simple tweak of the Now Time more often than not.  Is there such a keyboard tweak/tool?  What method do you use to nudge the Now Time?

2.)
Using the Mouse "Select Fast Zoom Options" I disagree with the manual.  "It says CTRL+ALT+ Mouse Wheel zooms horizontally."  My experience has been this:  It zooms vertically in the track; not horizontally.
"ALT+Mouse Wheel" zooms horizontally.
Does anyone agree with this??

A few last comments.  I'll agree that some may consider it user error, however, I attribute it to possible editor un-friendliness.

a.  I'll be working on a single track using various editing commands and "Bam!" I've jumped out of the track and are viewing other tracks (along with the track that I was working in)......How did that happen?  If I had to zero in on cause and effect, It mostly happens when I use Fast Zoom.

b.  Or, I'll be working on a multiple tracks and decide to make a tweak on one track.  I  click the "Track Maximize box", do my edits and then "Minimize the track" and all my other viewed tracks have disappeared.  This requires that I go into "Track Manager" "M" and re-activate the tracks for viewing.  Why/how does this happen/??

c.  How many times have I clicked/selected a clip to work on and the clip moves ("Drag and Drop" dialog opens).  I didn't want to move it, I just wanted to select the clip.  As a result I have to cancel out of "Drag and Drop" or undo the action.

d.  I have a feeling this next comment has to do with setting up Key Binding (setup), however why should it; I haven't take the time for Key Binding.   There are times that I want to simply zoom all the way in on Now Time (one click) and quickly zoom out, but it usually takes multiple clicks of the keyboard/mouse to accomplish this.  To get back out I have repeatedly hit "U" to get back to where I was.  Any thoughts??  Yes, I am aware of CTRL+=, etc.

e.  It drives me crazy when I finally get the Now Time to where I want it and I right-click the mouse with the intention to split the track and "Bang!" the Now Time moves to a different place.  (Yes, I do use "S", however, if a clip/track has not been selected, I have to be very careful that I do not move the Now Time when selecting the clip (i.e., "Drag and Drop" comment above).  There just seems to be too many steps to perform a simple manuever.

I hadn't intended this to be a gripe session, but more of an awareness/information query/gathering for some editing actions that I regularily take and seem to get in trouble with.  Maybe its me, but weird things happen.

I'm a strong believer of reading the manual, time and time again, although ~1600 pages seems daunting at times.  With that said, the manual is a great asset.  I wish they'd print a manual.    I'd buy it.  It's over $100 if I had Staples print the PDF.  Sonar is a great and powerful product...amazing programming!

If anyone has any thoughts on the comments I have made, please comment.  I'm looking for solutions or changes in workflow to these mis-adventures .  If my experiences are typical to others (like yourself), possibly the Sonar developers can consider these quirks in future updates.

Lastly, is there any place to go/link to find "un-documented" Shortcuts?

Again, thanks for looking and I hope to hear from you.

Best regards............

Search this up in the help file "Nudge a Clip Using Keyboard Shortcuts" it should show you how to nudge using keyboard.

Yes, I'm aware of "Nudge a Clip..."  I am looking to "Nudge Now Time" not Clip.

This shifts the Now time by 1 measure, either backwards or forwards.

I'm not sure if you can nudge the Now time by any finer increments than this.

To be able to nudge the Now Time by an amount equal to the Snap-to setting would be a useful feature.

See this post for how to set up CAL files and keybindings to allow Now-time nudging:

    http://forum.cakewalk.com/fb.ashx?m=1365944

I still use this in X1 with the NowBack and NowForward CAL files bound to left and right cursor keys.

I also keep shortcuts on my desktop to the CAL files so I can easily edit them to change the resolution for different situations.
