Took the Plunge - X1
Got a promo email from the Bakers this week - 'loyalty' (and having not upgraded yet) got me an invitation to get X1 Producer for $79... decided that this plank was worth jumping off. I'll be installing over the weekend. I suppose this means I'll now have to adopt a cranky, aggressive demeanor and go upstairs for a while. Any pointers on good prep practices so I can put on a good show?

I'd be loyal if I had a new DAW that could run X1 (maybe they'll throw one in?). Yeah, right...
Time for all of you to head over to Beyond My DAW!

leave 8.5 on your computer even when you install and start using X1. there may be projects that won't work in X1 (typically because of plugins like Guitar Rig 3 that won't run in 64bit, things like that).

I guess I'm not loyal enough. I didn't get an e-mail. Maybe I'll have to take the plunger instead.
Should auld acquaintance be forgot--hey, who the hell are you guys? X2(X3 pending hardware upgrade), Emulator X2, E-mu 1212M, Virtual String Machine

If I hear a loud squeaka-squeaka-squeaka-POP from your direction, I'll know what happened...

Good to know - thanks. I think the only ones that could be critical are Jamstix and Battery 3... I'll have to check NI's website and see if there's a 64-bit patch for Battery 3. I think Jamstix is ok, based on things that are on their boards. I haven't had to mess with GR3 since I just use my pedal board for guitar - it's pretty ecumenical.

Well... it took about 3 hours to get everything lined up - couldn't get Dim Pro to run until I finally figured out that, even though I had never installed it as a DXi, X1 seemed to be thinking I did... what's life without a challenge, eh? So... I've played with X1 Producer for about an hour, and I think I'll be a happy camper. I've been wanting the "big transport" to be larger (and/or enlargeable) for a long time, my astigmatism just never did well with it... X1's transport and so on all big and bright across the top of the screen is very much worth the price of admission. Very nice. Need to close down for the night, and going on vacation tomorrow... so I'll have to wait in suspense for a week to try some more. Cheers, all. Russ

oh yeah. I forgot to mention that the dim pro installation was a bust. I had to uninstall and finally had to wipe the registry clean of previous dim pro installations then reinstall from the DVD.

I guess I'm not loyal enough. I didn't get an e-mail. Maybe I'll have to take the plunger instead. Why not email them without mentioning this thread, Russell, or any offer you've heard of and ask them if they can give you a break on an upgrade. The worst they can do is say no. J
