Problems running multiple instances Dimension

Hi There,
So far I have a good experience with Sonar X1B.  However, I have been trying to use multiple instances (3) of Dimension Pro 64, and it is not happy.  The first instance  is fine using a Martin steel patch.  The Second is running large strings, and the third is running  violings expressivo.  I cannot get any sound out ot the third patch, and if I try resetting, I also lose the 2nd one.  At any time I can dial either the 2nd or 3rd midi source (or both) to TTS where I started and it is fine.  I have tried freezing the first 2 and still can't get the 3rd one running.

Help appreciated

Cheers

Grif

Well, your pc seems up to spec, so I don't suspect it's a resource problem.

Are your additional Dim Pro instances using the correct Midi channel?

Are you 100% sure all your routing is, er, routed properly?  No tracks or busses muted? No muted clips?

I can happily run 7/8/9 instances of DP (don't think I've tried a larger number) in both 8.5.3 & X1B

    Hi Bristol,

    Thanks for the reply
I set up a demo and dropped in a few instances of DimPro64 and set them up with the same instruments as my project and they all work fine when I play them interactively and when I drop a few notes in the PRV for each.  I went back to my project and loaded anther instance. It plays interactively no problem, I dropped a few notes into PRV and played it back with the track and it plays.  I copied the original track into the new midi track and voila - no output from the synth, and I could no longer play it interactively.  I killed the tracks and the synth and started again.  This time, after verifying that notes I added to PRV worked.  I copied a few notes from the original midi track over to the new midi track - it works !!!.  I copied the rest of the noes for the verse - about 30 seconds and it died again.  very strange.  Going to have to look at event list - resetting doesn't help, or restarting the app - that instance of the synth is now dead. Synth is now dead. BTW I should mention this is not a multi instance issue any more - all the other instances and other synths, Session Drummer, TTS etc are now frozen - I got over having to use TTS strings - it is just a simple backing track to play guitar and sing over, so this is a point of interest now.

    Thanks again

Found it - this was an imported MIDI project and the tracks impacted are sending out RPN commands at the beginning - One was RPN 0 value 640 - Don't know what it means but Dimension doesn't like it.

Dimension Pro has had this issue responding to NRPNs for a long time.  Best practice when importing external MIDI tracks to be used with Dimension is to ensure via filtering that no such codes are sent to the synth.

Thanks Techead   - and Bristol.  It's funny, I've been grabbing midi tracks to use as a starting point for back tracks for years and it was the first time I came across this - good to know though - added it to the list of "things to check"
