Message for Mr Seth Perlestein
Hey Seth, I am a bit peeved off with you. I posted a thread in the Sonar Producer X1 forum asking fellow Sonar users what Laptop I would need to use to run Sonar X1 smoothly. You removed it and threw it into computers where you know it wont get any views. Fair enough you might say. Sonar Producer X1 is not for hardware discussions although if someone is going to pay 2000 US Dollars for a Laptop to run your software you might cut them some slack and let them stay in the Sonar XI forum for a day at least. Ok thats cool. Then I look and see a thread for Reason 6 who are a competitor of yours from Sweden allowed to stay in Sonar X1 forum for at least 24 hours. Thanks for that and here is the thread http://forum.cakewalk.com/tm.aspx?m=2344022 No doubt this post will be moved. I am not happy with that kind of moderation. Basically you move posts when it suits you but when it doesnt you let them stay. I have no problem with Reason 6 being discussed in the Sonar X1 producer forum but have a bit of consistency will you. If you bar me for this post go ahead. I will just get Reason 6 or Studio One instead. I like Sonar but the attitude towards customers is slacking and I am for one am not happy. NOT A HAPPY CUSTOMER!

Just to add I had three hours in the Sonar X1 Producer forum and then my post was kicked off. I have to play Russian roulette on my new Laptop purchase now. If I buy the wrong one then I have lost a lot of money. Thanks Cakewalk. I think that would make any reasonable man annoyed. Then you see a post which should technically be posted in Software allowed to stay. Yes that sounds fair to me. Really fair.

I am not sure what you are griping about. You got good information specifically answering all your questions with direct input from Seth on 2 occasions not to mention from 2 of the best sources of information on hardware available on this forum. You have not posted any updates in your own thread since the 8th of July so it was likely safe to assume that you had made your decision based on all the helpful advise you got and already made your purchase. The propellarhead rewire is of significant interest to a large number of users as the wait for 64bit has been a long time coming and integrates directly with Sonar so it is a very pertinent as a Sonar forum thread as Sonar supports the rewire function.

Hi Stevethesearcher: You should consult Jim Roseberry about a laptop purchase. The 2 on his site are more than $2000, but you can consult him and maybe he can help you to make the best purchase in your price range. Here's his site: http://www.studiocat.com/2/index.php/Home

If I were you I would look for an i5 and be sure that the laptop has a 7200 RPM drive. USB 3.0 would be nice but you cn pretty much forget finding a new ne with a firewire port but with the newer USB interfaces and their drivers you should be OK. You can always go to the store and download DPC latency checker and run it on the display model to get a little bit of an idea how it will do. You shouldn't have to spend more than 6 or 7 hundred bucks for a laptop that will do the job. Problems will be more likely to come from an interface or controller that is not up to todays standards, IMO. You can always freeze some tracks or use direct monitoring too. I wouldn't spend over 700 bucks for a laptop these days considering all you can get for 700 and under. For under 2k you can get a desktop that will be pretty much bulletproof from Studiocat. a few hundred bucks for a nice HD monitor that you can use with either the laptop or the desktop. I think for a laptop you either stay under 700 bucks or you go over 3,000 bucks, no reason to go anywhere inbetween. Good luck! Julien

I can understand the reason for moving the thread.... the X1 forum is for dealing with the software, and yeah...even though you are looking for a compatible laptop to run X1... the thread should have asked in the computer forum. I have seen a number of similar.... "will this computer run that software" sort of question posed there. And they do get some very informed answers. That said... maybe the admins were a bit "over zealous" in moving that particular thread, because it was related. I agree with the posters that questioned the $2k for a lappy to run X1. I ran my DAW software for 3 years on an off the shelf no frills Dell lappy that I bought for $1200. I just spent slightly more than half of that amount (last August) to build a screaming i5 Intel desktop DAW. ($800) I'd really consider the desk top route... you will get more bang for the buck...AND if you build it rather than buy it, you get it exactly like YOU want.

stevethesearcher - I truly hope you find the answers you're looking for. there have been some good responses in this thread regarding what to look for for a laptop DAW or how to find a good one. I also truly hope you find some peace since it sounds like you are in need. getting upset over an admin moving your thread and not someone elses should be pretty low on one's priority list of things to get upset about. just sayin. peace to you.
