moving midi clips in 8.5 PE (short question?)

Hi folks!

A little strange behaviour, which i havent really seen before. I guess there is a setting somewhere, but i cant find it:

When i record a midi sequence/clip, the clip can "of course" happen to start anywhere in time, right. I mean, wherever i play my first note. Say i record a clip, and my first note is recorded at 1:2:034. Now, when i want to move this recorded clip around (forward in time), it snaps to the very start of the next measures. It shall not do so, it shall snap to "2:2:034...3:3:034...4:3:034" and so on. Right?!

So... i dont find the setting. I have checked the "snap to grid" dialogue, but it does not help me.

Also, when i want to use the scissors tool in a midi clip, i want it to cut the clip exactly (between the two notes) where i put the scissors pointer. But now it does not, it cuts the clip where the closest whole measure is. This behaviour is also new to me, earlier Sonar has really behaved the "way i want". From my point of view i shall not need to have "snap to grid" set to <off> for having this done the way i want...

Any help appreciated:)

cheers
/Bengt

How come does "Snap to grid" -dialogue not help you?
You can set the "snap" to how small note-events you want or how small time-steps you want, and also you can choose whether to "Move to" or " Move by". What else can you hope for???

SONAR PE 8.5.3, Asus P5B, 2,4 Ghz Dual Core, 4 Gb RAM, GF 7300, EMU 1820, Bluetube Pre  -  Kontakt4, Ozone, Addictive Drums, PSP Mixpack2, Melda Creative Pack, Melodyne Plugin etc.

Unless you have snap to grid turned off you aren't working with where the first note is played but the beginning of the clip. If you're moving clips around it's best if the beginning of the clip is exactly on the beginning of the measure. Then set snap to grid to Measure and move the clip around and it will always snap to the beginning of the measure. You can use note increments like whole, half and quarter and get the same results.

You can split a clip right on the beginning of the measure, or on the beat, with snap to grid set to 1/4 note. You can also slip-drag the beginning of the clip to the beginning of a measure or whatever increment snap to grid is set to.

Another option you have is to right click the clip and change the start time in the clip properties. That is independent of the snap to grid setting.

Your problem with the scissor tool also sounds like it is caused by the snap to grid setting. If snap to grid is set to measure then the scissor tool is going to split the clip at the measure to the right of where you click the scissor tool. If you want to split a clip between notes use a smaller snap setting like 1/8 or 1/16 note or turn snap to grid off.

Thanks Kalle. "Move by", did it. I dont know how i missed that checkbox. Sometimes man is just blind ;) ... Im still a bit confuzed though, why it was set to "move to" in the first place. Prolly my studio demons messing with my computer. :p ... Because its not "move to" by default???

    The scissor dilemma remains though.

Thanks Chappel for your reply as well. Even though i will continue to start midi sequences on other points than measurestarts ;) ... And nope, the scissor thing shall not be dependent of snap settings when handlin midi.

Maybe this is partly related to the 8.5-upgrade... If so, it also states that im extremely unproductive, as i havent recognized it before...

Cheerio, and again, excuse my swenglish :)
