MIDI Drag & Drop Failure

I'm attempting to import MIDI clips/patterns (whatever) from the X1 Media Browser into a MIDI track and having problems.  Selecting a position in a MIDI track and double clicking in the browser doesn't work.  Dragging the file from the browser into the track doesn't work.

I think I even tried doing a File/Import...and that kinda worked...except that it pulled in a bunch of empty tracks and changed the (previously carefully calibrated) project tempo to match what was in the MIDI file.

(I tried this with some Groove Monkey things that didn't have the multiple pattern stuff going on...and that worked fine.)

It appears to be specific to the MIDI data included with the original Session Drummer (now known retroactively as Session Drummer 1).  The SD1 MIDI files contained multiple patterns indicated by markers in the file.

What is it about these MIDI files that SONAR has issues with and what can be done to convert them (hopefully in a batch mode) to something that can be easily imported from the browser?

    Hmm...no takers?

Does anyone even use MIDI drum loops?

I wonder if it has anything to do with Type 0 vs Type 1 MIDI file?
If the MIDI files imports as multi-track, it's Type 1.
Try converting one of the files to Type 0... and see if it will drag/drop properly.

Greetings; When you say it 'doesn't work', what exactly do you mean? What happens when you try to drag an audio or midi file into your project?

FWIW i find that with midi stuff and with audio clips located in the Media Browser, i have to try dragging stuff over into the track view twice; the first attempt doesn't work, and where the midi/audio thingee should go i get a small red circle with a diagonal line through it. But if i keep my mouse pointer on the audio/midi file i want to use, and try dragging it into my project a 2nd time, it does work.

I figure the first attempt going wrong has something  to do with loading the audio/midi file into the preview player.

    Regards
    Glenn

Interesting.  Audio clips can be weird beause they may jump to a specific time if they have been saved as broadcast files (unless you disable that in Sonar).  I drag MIDI files in pretty often and have not had this issue.

...'doesn't work' means that after you drag or double click or whatever, you don't see a MIDI clip anywhere in the target track.  It just pretends that nothing happened.

    (In response konradh...)

I've already been bitten by the offset thing when importing audio (by the way).  I had some stems from Logic that decided they wanted to land an hour into the project.  (Why start at 1:00:00.000 instead of just plain, all American zero?)  When I finally realized what happened, I had five copies of the clip stacked up.

(There's a setting somewhere to tell SONAR to ignore the offset timestamp on imported audio.  I just don't remember what it is right now.)

That's likely to be the issue.  I'll give that a shot.
