Pro Channel turning on by itself ... I found a way to make it happen. [UPDATED WITH VIDEO]

Hi all,

The problem of the Pro Channel turning on and off by itself has come up a lot lately. Brandon had mentioned that he had not seen or heard of it turning on by itself and asked for input from others who had seen this problem.

I finally found a way to make Pro Channel turn on by itself and I can repeat the problem.

I was reading a thread about someone who accidentally turned on 'Offset' mode and it messed up their track pan's. I never used 'Offset' mode so I opened a project and hit 'O' to see what it would do. I didn't hear a difference so I hit 'O' again to turn it off. When I did, I lost the volume in one of my tracks. I clicked the track to see what was going on and Pro Channel had turned the 1176 Compressor on when I turned 'Offset' mode off.

I turned the 1176 Comp off and hit 'O' a couple of times again to see what would happen. Another track went silent so I pulled it up and sure enough ... the 1176 Comp had turned on. I am able to repeat this over and over again. At one point it turned the 1176 Comp on, but it was unresponsive.

Can you guys please try this and see if you can duplicate this? Especially those of you who have never had Pro Channel do this before.

The project was 19 tracks with the tracks separated in to folders. The problem only seemed to effect tracks within the folder I was viewing a track in.

Thanks,

Bub

UPDATE: Here's a link to a video of it happening.

I use Offset mode a lot.... and I haven't been having any occurrences of this since I believe X1a? I've been nervous about it all the while tho as it freaked me out a few times during the original release... Maybe that's part of the reason(s) I've refrained from using PC....?

Just so I'm not misunderstand you ... you have seen Pro Channel turn on by itself but it stopped doing it after the X1a patch?

Well that's the kicker ... I wasn't using Pro Channel at all then out of the blue it turned itself on. In other words, I didn't have a choice.

    Btw ... I'm running X1b w/Quick Fix #255 x64

Hi Bub... That may be the issue's differences... I'm running the x32 version under Vista 32 (sadly) and QF255 is useless here so I'm running 246 (255 won't let me run wdm/ks and I can't use ASIO for a number of reasons)...

Have you tried this with the x32 version?

Thanks for the suggestion. I'll fire up X1 x86 and see if I can duplicate it.

Which EQ and Compressor do you have loaded in Tracks 18 & 19 FX bins? I noticed the sends-17 doesnt have a compressor in the FX bin, 18 is sent to  Acoustic & 19 is sent to Master with the compressors On.  Ill give it a shot as well. I might have seen something like this before but wasnt sure what was going on.

    Sonitus.

Right. I have 17 & 18 routed to a bus with Channel Tools on it. 19 is the Bass guitar. On smaller projects like this I just lump all the guitars in a single folder.
Ill give it a shot as well. I might have seen something like this before but wasnt sure what was going on.
    Thanks.

I'm really glad I got this video because I can't recreate the problem now. It simply stopped doing it after a while. I've been trying to get it to do it in X1 x86 like Keni suggested but it won't do it. I tried to do it in X1 x64 again and I can't get it to do it there anymore either.

This is what makes troubleshooting X1 so hard, things will happen for no reason repeatedly then all of a sudden they'll stop. Video doesn't lie though ... you can see it was doing it. It did it on track 17 and 18 at least 20 times while I was messing with it, can't remember if it was happening on 19 though.

As you say, ol pal...video doesn't lie.  Even if this were happening to you only it would be disturbing enough.  But that it might possibly be happening to many others is fairly amazing.  I'm sure the Bakers are taking notice of your videos and trying to figure out what...exactly...is awry with PC.  Thanks for the leg work!

Thanks yorolpal. I sent in a Problem Report and PM'd Brandon directly. I gave tech support a link to the video and the project file so we'll see what happens.

What happens if you just close the inspector?

It may not turn on and off automatically like that if you have the inspector closed.

This is cool ... I got not one, but two emails from tech support already.

They were able to reproduce it and were already aware of the problem and have been working on it. They said it was because there is an envelope on track 18. I could see that, but the problem is, it was doing it on track 17 also and there is no envelope on it ...

Makes me wonder why some are seeing it and not others ... or are they and don't realize it? Hmm ...

btw, thanks stratman70 and the others who have tested this. It is greatly appreciated.

@Mike ... I can't get it to do it at all now with or without the inspector up. I've been trying off and on for about 20 minutes now. It's so strange ... but at least we have confirmation now that there is a problem and it's being addressed. Hopefully before X2.
