Sound working in Sonar but not other Apps

I only get sound out of my soundcard for Sonar and not any other window apps that rely on sound (Media player, video players, streaming audio, Encore, etc.). In Sonar's Preferences, under Audio - Playback and Recording, I have the "Share drivers with other programs" option selected.  In Windows - Sound - Playback Devices - Playback tab, I have a Presonus Out selected as my default - I have tried all 5 Outs and none of them work.

My set-up was working fine just a week ago.  I did nothing (consciously) that I know of that would have affected this functionality.  I have tried everything that I can think of but it still isn't working.

This may not be a strictly Sonar X1 problem but anyone have any suggestions all the same??

Have you tried doing a System Restore by selecting a restore point dated about 2 weeks ago?

if your online, you might find there was a windows update that affected things perhaps? also in windows control panel, you might find the output is set wrong, sure you selected the interface.. but what about the output ? in sound off control panel.. right click.. make sure all devices are displayed, you might have hidden it / disabled it. the tick should be on the soundcard you want. is there a mixer app for the card, that you might have muted.. or you might have muted the pc .. is there a volume on you keyboard etc ? I'd do a clean reinstall.. but maybe because it's firewire your drivers are updated on that front ? press windows + break key .. then device manager .. see if everything is ok in there also reinstall the soundcard in a different usb port..

Your Windows Sample rate may be incorrect. Some sound cards will only operate using one for both ASIO and WDM. My old E-MU did. It's somewhere in Windows audio properties buried.

Notation, the original DAW. Everything else is just rote. We are who we are and no more than another. Humans, you people are crazy.

I think this was it.  It definitely is buried, but I found it and tried adjusting it to 24-bit + 96k and it worked.  Thanks for the tip.  Glad to not have to try rollbacks and reinstalls.
