I assume the E mu is the USB model, I see there's a PCI version too.
The way to trouble shoot is to follow your signal path.
Start by using a set of headphones to determine if your getting sound from your guitar or mike in the interface.

    Whoops hit send by mistake-
Then go to Control Panel / Sounds and Audio devices and see if the interface is recognized.

Check to see if PatchMix is running and configured properly.  Try the default setting and then customize them to your system.  If it's USB make sure that driver is working.

Run the "discovery" app for Sonar 7.  I don't have time to check it right now.  I will later today if you still need it.

If nothing else works, you may even want to update the drivers and PatchMix.  Try to get your current setup working before you resort to upgrading stuff.  Fewer variables that way.

    Good luck,

Have you checked any of the essential places where these things are set:

In the Options dialogue do you have the E-MU input/output drivers detected and selected, and nothing else - not the integrated soundchip or something.

Which driver mode are you using? ASIO usually is the best.

What have you connected to the amp? E-MUs line output or something from your computer?

Also Recording and Playback Timing Master should be the E-MU.

Looks like it's 0404 USB device in question ("switched it on") --> no PatchMix applett.

I would check if the driver samplerate is set correctly.

You can reset this device to factory defaults (see User's Manual).

Anyway, it's always possible that the device is broken (during last months I've seen few mentioned).
