A special dog and a special owner need your help (and it won't cost anything :-)
The American Humane Society is running a "Hero Dog Awards" thing devoted to the various dogs who have been trained to provide essential, special services to disabled human companions. A friend of a friend and her dog are doing quite well in this event, but could use some extra support in the way of additional votes. The story of this woman's courage and determination just to face daily life given the extensiveness of her disabilities was sufficiently moving to prompt me to reach out to the good folks of the CH in hopes that some of you will lend your support (you can vote once a day if you're so inclined). The dog's name is Carmel, and the owner's name is Emily Costanza (the link appears below). The following brief piece describes some of Emily's disabilities and how her dog has helped her. I found it inspiring. I hope you will too and lend your support. ------------------------------------- Hello. My name's Emily and I'm a quadriplegia. I have a host of conditions that has made me unable to walk and can use one arm. I just received CArmel 7 mos ago and she is THE MOST INCREDIABLE THING TO ME. I have a TBI called Chiari Malformation 1( a few brainsurgeries for this) 2 heart conditions, spinal bifida, seizures and of course, paralysis. I live in constant pain and w/the knowledge that my spine is being destroyed in 3 places. She makes me laugh, picks things up off of the floor, opens/closes doors, helps me in my seizures, carries things, gives money to the person at a counter, opens up the refrigator, jumps on my lap and now gives me a kissie!! etc. This competition MEANS THE WORLD TO ME-IT'S A DREAM COME TRUE!! ------------------------------------ http://www.herodogawards.org/view-entries.html#search/carmel

Vote early, vote often! Maybe the dog will run for President, he sounds more intelligent than what we've had to put up with for the last few decades...
Time for all of you to head over to Beyond My DAW!
