motorboating
Well looks like I'm becoming a regular participating guest on this forum. Truth is I haven't been a heavy user until now. Well the problem is I just mixed down a song with about 20 tracks that plays perfectly in the project. But when I play the exported wav file back it motorboats. Not immediately just after about 20 seconds into the song and it continues for the duration. I tried exporting 3 more times and each time it motoboats in the same place. I have changed absolutely nothing, that I am aware of. No new plugs . I've mixed this project down many times recently and no problems. It's never done this before on any wav file. It sounds exactly like a motorboat it starts soft and grows in volume but a little lower frequency than some of the motorboating files I've heard. Any ideas what could be causing this? I can post the mp3 in reverbnation if it would help in the diagnosis. my plugs are 4 uad 's and 1 ozone and 4 Alloys.

Have you tried disabling the "Fast Bounce" option?

Hey Jim, sorry about the delay in responding but I've been trying some things to see if I can narrow it down. I was already using slow bounce. I just disabled ozone 4 and it didn't help. The sound grows to an overwhelming volume. As before, it starts at a particular point in the song and never stops. I exported another project to a wav file and it worked fine. It seems to be affecting only this file beginning at one particular spot. As before the project plays perfectly it only appears in the exporting to wav process. I will try exporting to mp3. I'll also try disabling all plugs.

I would try bouncing some of the tracks to new audio tracks and seeing if the motorboating is in the new tracks. I think you can select all tracks and bounce to one track, right? If so, the new track will basically be the exported wav file that you want. See if that has the motorboating as well.

Try exporting by using CTRL- SHIFT - A to select none. That will ensure that nothing is inadvertently getting selected. What is your BounceBuffSize Msec setting in your config settings and your playback I/O buffer size in Pref - Sync and Caching?

I just narrowed it down to the alloy plugin on my vox track. If I disable any other alloy plug it has no affect. Also the noise begins when vocals begin. I tried cloning the track. I also tried restarting the computer. Neither helped. Of all things its the vocal which I've worked hard at getting right. I'm going to save the settings as a preset and delete the plug. Hopefully the problem will get lost in the transition. Odd thing is it's only on export. I did just notice when I export it that the output volume goes into the red to 18. I could probably have heard it if I had done an audible export, which I will do in a moment. Why only when exporting?

Maybe try bouncing the vocal down to a track(with Alloy running on it) and then muting(archiving may be better) the original and see if the problem shows up on the bounced track. That way you can solo it and see if there is any distortion in the track itself or of the effects on that track are causing the track to clip.

Well I got it. I had narrowed it down that alloy plug. I shut individual modules down within alloy and it would work properly with either the exciter or dynamics off. I reset the exciter module and the noise was loud but improved. I then reset the dynamics module and the noise was gone. It now exports properly. Go figure? I had done nothing to those modules beyond tweaking. I couldn't make them produce that sound if I tried. It was a room filling roar that dwarfed the music. So loud that I had to reduce speaker volume. Thanks Lorneyb2, Jim and mleghorn for your assistance!
