100 Proof Country...........Live recording, Edit--2nd Mix

"Purple hair aint my style, Call me a redneck.....I don't care"

Robb is a singer songwriter.  Put together a band to showcase his Music.
They been practicing just a few months.   Bass players first practice.
I guess you could call this country rock,  was recorded at a private party.
Their first live rehearsal with a full sound stage.

I would love to have some input on this 1st mix.
This project is on a time frame.
Any help I can get would be much appreciated.

Tim

I don't know if I improved the mix.  Sometimes I tend to over think stuff.  :(
Let me know what you think............Thanks

    I like it, good energy!

The vocals are too dry for me, and I'd EQ the guitar/vocals so they don't compete.
    Good first mix though.

Thanks "JamzOr" for your time to listen and comment.

The vocals aren't completely dry, I hadn't added any reverb to the mix
(as of yet)......only verb that is in this recording right now is what's recorded
    from the live mix.

All my live tracks are recorded post EQ and inserts(FX),   but I have rolled off some lows.

Thanks again,  I guess I'll have to carve out some space in those guitars later tonight.

I'd say the voc needs some compression and the guits need to come down and drums up.

Thanks "timidi" ........your comment is what I thought to after
     listening to it today.

The vocal was compressed alittle on the way in but I didn't hit it
    very hard.

    Thanks for your time.....................Tim

    Hey, Tim,

This sounds really good, especially for a live mix, and the song itself is great!

I think I agree with Tim about the drums maybe coming up a touch, and maybe just a slight, narrow, downward eq notch on the vocal track at around 500hz would probably separate the vox from the guitars a little bit more.

    Dynamite work, buddy!

Thanks Bob...........You always take the time to listen and comment on my work.
"Much appreciated".   I have 14 original songs in all that I recorded from this event.
But this will be the only one I post.   Don't want to be a nuisance.

I have been working on the other's, but will re-mix this one tonight.   I have a free friday night
so I plan on getting some things accomplished.     Will re-post another mix late tonight.
Would love to hear your input on the new mix (when posted).

    Thanks again "Bob" .

Nice song.  Sounds great for a live recording.  Nothing to add to the other comments except that I can't really hear any bass.  However, I am sitting in the computer room at a Hampton in with  a system and speakers that are even worse than mine at home.  Oh ya, and people that are waiting in line to get their turn.
    Terrific work.

I don't listen to alot of country these days but this sounds good , when I was playing in a country band in Florida we use to play songs like this .

Nice one , brings back memories when I was playing in a country band .

Country rock ain't my thing but I thought this was great. You may have a convert on your hands!

This is a live recording?!! I couldn't do anything like as good as this with all the studio time in the world. Great live performance and I would def see this band even though I have had purple hair in my time!

Tim, I have to say that it sounds damned good... even more son because it was recorded live.  Good job.

I can tell the second version is more compressed.

Sounds like you added some lows back into the vocal, but it's still honky. Sounds like perhaps over compressed, but it's hard to tell for sure.

I think the whole project needs some volume and limiting, then the vocal needs some eq, slightly more volume.

Then work on the drums. The feel seperate, like they have a different verb than everything elese, which is why the sound like there's space there. I would prolly try to eq them a little fatter.

But all that said...I love the song. Very hip, very contemporary. The only thing missing is the superfluous reference to listening to some long gone country and western singer...

I wonder why no one every references Garth...I think it's a damn conspiracy. He's the best country artist I've ever heard in my life. Period.
