MIDI problem in Sonar Sudio 8.5.3 64 bit.

Hi all.

A strange problem cropped up today in my rig. I am running simultaneously EWQLSO and GPO in Play 2.1.2 and Kontakt Player 4.02.

When trying to play in data to two tracks, one allotted to each of the libraries, my Axiom 61 will send data to both tracks, but only one will sound, never both. No matter what I do, I can't seem to see both tracks' meters shooting up as a sign that they've gotten the data simultaneously; too, no mixture of tone color that can usually be sensed from 2 different groups of instruments either. However, when I point and click data into the tracks, both will play back eqaully well, at the same level. I went into Options -> Audio and Options -> Midi, but saw no problems in either.

Any opinion?

Thanks, S.

By default, SONAR is set to Always Echo Current MIDI Track in Options > Global, which means incoming MIDI will be echoed to the synth assigned to the output of whichever MIDI/Instrument track currently has focus. In order to echo MIDI input on more than one track at a time, you must force Input Echo ON for the MIDI track(s) that do not have focus. The Input Echo button looks like: ))).

    Thank you, brundlefly.

This is what I thought of at first, but there's a general Echo button that turns on all track echo buttons, already present in v6, which looks like three horizontal parallel line segments symbolizing the keyboard, on the tool bar. It was on and still no simultaneous MIDI input, though the individual tracks' )))s were turned orange. It turns out that I must've flagged something in that particular project, for when I set up the same project anew, everything was fine.

    Thanks again, S.

Sounds like you might have had the wrong button engaged. Global echo in 8.5 looks about the same as track echo in 8.5, but with a dot to left of the "radiating wave" lines like this: ∙)))

Possible, but I always hit the button that turns the tracks' MIDI (inline) editor on (the one with the three horizontal parallel lines). However, the problem remains. Even though all ))) track buttons are on, and even though the audio tracks exhibit output, some of the MIDI meters don't indicate anything when I play in something with my controller keyboard. At the same time, all of the meters indicate signal in the sample players' instruments (I have multiple sample players working in Sonar, different, or multiple instances of the same player).

Another problem has cropped up. I am working in multiple projects to do partial editing of a big project. For example, I am working out high strings in different mini projects, since no library that I have has good violins and violas out of the box. After I am finished with this work, I put everything together into the big, final project. For this to happen, I have the big as well as the partial projects open at the same time to copy the material into the big project (well, it's not real copying but replication of the results in the partial projects). Here comes the problem: when I close one of the small projects, being finished with copying its content into the new project, Sonar stops working and it bails out. I don't think it's a matter of memory since I have 24GB Ram, but who knows.

    Any opinion?

    Thanks, S.

When you've got more than one project open at the same time, I recommend stopping the audio engine before switching from one to the other, and just leaving it stopped while you are moving material between them. This will help prevent glitches when switching between projects.
