SONAR plus Kontakt - where do instruments save?

hi guys,

Im trying to load an old project with a Kontact 1 plugin in it.

I dont have Kontact 1 on my new computer and I never actually saved the instrument separately in Kontakt.

So i would like to swap the instance for Kontakt 4 but load the old sample set in but I don't know where this file would be.

My question is - where does Kontakt (or Sonar?!) save the Kontakt file? And what would the extension be so I can search it on my old backups ?

Thanks in advance.

I never had Kontakt 1, but have K2, K3 and K4 and one might speculate that the same directory naming convention has been in place all along.

Factory content for the later versions can be found in folders named "Kontakt 2 Library", "Kontakt 3 Library" and "Kontakt 4 Library", so I'd expect the K1 libraries to be in "Kontakt 1 Library" or perhaps just "Kontakt Library".

The actual instruments usually have .NKI extensions, or .NKM for multiple-instrument collections. You may also need to copy the samples (wav files) that the .nki references, which are typically not stored in the same folder. The exception are "monolithic" .nki files, meaning the sample wave files are rolled up into the .nki file itself, making it easier to transport. You can tell which ones those are because they are enormous.

All else is in doubt, so this is the truth I cling to.

thanks for the reply. yeah if thats the case I seem to have misplaced them then, I think!
It doesnt seem to save separate .nki files - its almost as if its saved by Sonar... but probably not.
