I've been away for a while - Sonar OSX?

Hi, I was a hardcore Sonar user for many years. I had to move to a mac based system for various reasons and really miss Sonar. Any chance at all it will ever be available for OSX? Have there been any updates as far as using Sonar to score to video? (Quicktime implementation, etc..?)
cheers!

I heard a rumor that it would be OSX compatible "some day" but it's a vague rumor that I don't have any verification of.  As far as video (and notation) it's been totally ignored.

Thanks for the heads up. I'm currently using Logic, but I'm waiting for Apple to pull a FinalCutX on it and turn it into Garageband Pro. Hopefully by then I can go back to a MAC version of Sonar! -lol

buy yourself a system builders version of Windows for 130 bucks and you can run sonar under bootcamp (tis what i do)

sonar works great for scoring video. there are some compatibility issues when working in Sonar 64 though, .mov dont seem to want to import, .avi works fine however.

Don't know how these rumors start as several Cakewalkers have been on this forum over recent years and stated unequivocally that SONAR won't ever be ported to the Mac.

the reason that mov has compatability issues with SONAR 64 is that there is no 64 bit Quicktime version as yet.

no 64 bit Quicktime on PC no flash on Mac and so it goes as competition continues to disadvantage one user or another.

My 'business' hat on here ......

#1 I just read Seth's comments in a thread asking if Cakewalk was going to be at the Summer NAMM in Nashville ... paraphrase here, but he said the resources are a bit strapped and they can't spare the folks to attend the show.

#2 Sonar has been the dominant product in the Windows space with the greatest technology relationship with the OS  Specifically first to do a 64bit app as an example.

#3 If I were in management at the company, or an investor - it would be very difficult to convince me it was worth it to divide my development across two operating systems.

#4 I exclusively use Macs in my studio (big change for me in the past 24 months for sure!) but Sonar is running perfectly under Bootcamp (NOT Parallels for me)

    Just my two sense

Sonar on Windows, Logic on OSX. Both on the same machine if you want.

I'm not sure there's much money to be made for Cakewalk on OSX - though it would certainly accommodate certain users.

The main reason I had to move to Logic was for scoring to picture / Quicktime capability, etc. I always had to convert my videos to work in Sonar and this caused anomalies like frame rate issues, etc.. And all my clients use Mac based systems so it's easier to exchange files that way.
Logic is fine but I miss using Sonar and the community on here is really great. Composing music in Sonar was just more fun for some reason and I got more of a sense that the developers we're always trying to push the envelope to do cool things and keep it updated. I don't get that feeling with other DAW developers at all.
If they get the video features up to par, then I'll check out the bootcamp option.

Well fortunately for us DAW usage is not moderated by any government or spiritual organization.  For me that means I use a mixture of multiple tools to get jobs done.  Sometimes I track in Pro Tools and mix in Sonar and sometimes I do it the other way around.  I tracked in Samplitude, Reaper, Logic etc and always end up bouncing stuff around in my workflow.  You're right about the variable that video tracks make in DAW post.  That's one of the reasons I've moved to Mac for that stuff.  100% of the video projects I have done in 18 months are coming with a ton of 'Mac' orientation and I've had to adapt.  However I have still recorded and composed in Sonar and just bounced my way back to the MacDaw for returning to the video team.  Good time to be working IMHO.

well technically appple are in a different position from most other competitors.. you buy their software, you have to buy a mac. (officially anyway) and same with pro tools in the past I guess.. apple change the CPU's from time to time and apple stuff is a closed shop.. with PC thats not such an issue.. I wonder what the market share of DP vs logic on the mac..
