Band In The Box 2011
Since I don't have time to leatn to play steel guitar or fiddle, I was wondering if anyone is using Band In The Box 2011 with the Real tracks, particularly country......I have a very old version #11...I called PG Music and she gave me a price of $299 + $15 shipping for BITB 2011.5 + ALL of the Real Tracks
Anyone using this program?

Band in a box has matured into one of the most useful tools in my studio. Real Tracks and Real drums have become my starting point as I work with gospel songwriters in my studio. The sound and performances are first class/world class. The studio musicians are all first call people .
I started with BIAB when it was straight up midi and it had value and I could justify the cost, NOW with realtracks and realdrums I upgrade twice a year and wait for every release.
BIAB 2011.5 has GREAT steel guitar-fiddle is well represented. I dont use the midi side of the software at all-it's all the real instuments for me.

yep! I use it for instruments I can't play and while it's not perfect it is certainly a big help! herb (guitarhacker) also uses it a lot, he may stop in and see this thread. the real tracks are well worth the money for instruments you can't play.
the real tracks aren't perfect, like I said, they're basically like automation for loops. so you can't do specific articulations like you could if you were playing the instrument yourself or hiring a musician to do it, but it's still a fantastic tool, IMO.

I have been using BiaB for sometime now and I agree with everything that has been said thus far. Although I use the midi side of it more often than the RealTrack side when I do use the RealTrack side I generate a number of tracks of the instrument I want. Then with a little cutting and pasting I can generally get something close to what I had in my mind.
What hasn’t been said is what a great tool it is or generating new music, just input your chord structure, pick a style and press play. This is great for those mental blocks, learning new genres and for practicing.
I think you would be happily surprised with BiaB.

Thanks.......I used it ten years ago to do a midi sequence...I thought it was so cool by just typing in the chords.....
Question: I plan to get the 2011.5 Ultra Plus Edition (with all of the Real Band Tracks)...I notice there is an audiophile version that contains the original wave files....are the files in the version I want .wma files? If so, can I drag the files (let's say a steel guitar part) into X1 without an issue? I wonder if I should get the audiophile instead

Yes, the files in the version you want are wma files. If you are a pro you can get the audiophile version. If you are a hobbyist then the wma files will be fine.
BiaB has a DAW plug in mode that will show BiaB on screen with your DAW. You can drop and drag both midi, wav (either audiophile wavs or wma files) and midi as wav (where they automatically bounce midi and the sound source together). You can also drop and drag the combo mode, which will bring every track over as wav tracks into your DAW. So yes you can drop and drag from BiaB to your DAW.

as mario says, you don't HAVE to get the audiophile version with Wave files to be able to drag the audio files into Sonar. the version which comes with WMA files will import/drag drop into sonar as well and sonar will convert them from WMA to wave.

It's just a tool to use to make music.
It really depends on how you use it. Straight out of the "box" they didn't sound anywhere near that sweet. As a matter of fact, if you heard the original tracks in BB you probably would NOT recognize the song as the same tune.
But yeah, they were done in BB.

Herb: Nice job!
Another question......obviously the wma files would be 16 bit for the non audiophile version......are the waves 24 bit in the audiophile version? I need to order this today....if the sound is dramatically better I'll get the audiophile version, but I'm betting the non version would be fine. I'm programming my own drums with Superior Drummer 2.3 and am playing all of the acoustic and electric guitars and bass....Herb's steel guitar sounded good in the mix...if I can save a few $ going that way, that would be great....
Tomorrow I'm getting a "The Loar" 520 Mandolin and a Recording King RK25 5 string banjo...both sound great and and are a good bang for the buck

I don't know for absolute certain, but I'm pretty sure they are 44.1k/16bit wave files. personally I really don't think it's worth the extra money, but YMMV. you could ask on the PGMUSIC forum to be certain of the format - I'm sure someone there knows. go to www.pgmusic.com and click on FORUMS

Okay...just checked out the FAQ concerning audiophile vs regular version. The regular version are compressed wma either at 128 or 160 kbps
That sucks...128? That's no better than an internet streaming mp3
I really don't want to spend the extra $ on audiophile....but if I'm recording at 24 bit/44.1 it's a step down to stick in a real band track at 128
