Hard drive melt down - Restore files nighmare

My hard drive went south taking Sonar X1 Producer with it. Fortunately I had backed up my files so after getting Windows 7 onto a new hard drive I re-loaded Sonar and restored the Cakewalk Projects folder from my backup. Worked beautifully except that my most recent two projects were only partially restored. By that I mean that the project folder was there but only the Audio folder track files were restored, not the song files. I tried loading the track files into a blank template but the timing was way off between tracks. There are 5 songs involved that I took hours mixing so I am highly motivated to fix this problem. I would rather record them again than re-mix them if you know what I mean.

I have tried a number of things to fix this, including re-restoring the files but the song files are always absent from the two most recent project folder even though the Audio folder track files are always there. Oddly, previous projects are all there intact, only the two most recent are missing files. Weird, weird, weird!

Any ideas about how I might resolve this problem would be hugely appreciated.

    If the bad drive starts up - windows lists it, but you can't access it - you can use something like Get Data Back to retrieve your saved project files. If the drive is dead, and your last backup doesn't include the latest version of your project files, your only recovery option is to use a data recovery service. DataHounds is the fastest and least costly service I know of ($400). Otherwise the only thing you can do is recreate the data on your new drive. If you decide against using data recovery, you can at least get an RMA from the manufacturer, and have the drive replaced.

    Thanks Peregrine. I have got another hard drive up and going. The old one was an solid state drive that got fried and it won't even show up on the BIOS so I can't access it. A data retrieval service is a good idea and I'll consider that as an option. It odd though because the individual tracks of the new projects were restored as .wav files in the project Audio folder but the .cwp files of the individual songs are gone.

    For SSD, recovery is a much more expensive issue. On an HDD, a tech can just pop in a new board or spindle in most cases, and pull data off. For an SSD, a tech might have to work non-stop for days or a week or more. The cost quickly gets into the thousands.

    If you're certain you backed up after your project file was saved, and the project file is not in the backup, you may have somehow saved your project file to a different directory somewhere. You might try a search on the whole computer for a *.cwp file.
