The best con artist is somebody nobody will have heard of as being a con artist.

I guess that rules me out.

    (or does it?)

Whoever it was who convinced us to re-purchase our vinyl music in CD format.

Worst con artist is the one who thought we'd buy Gold Ultradisk versions.

I don't know who that guy is, but I've admired his work for years.  He uses a great deal of orange.  Some might see his art as repetitive, monotonous, and dull, but the same could be said of 99% of all music on the radio in the last 10 years.

I find it intersting that he's chosen to specialize on this one particular shape.  Most artists would have tried to move on at some point, but not this guy.  Year after year, he cranks out hundreds, if not thousands of these things.  They all look identical, as though they were mass produced in a factory.  He's that good.  They're sturdy, hold up in any weather, and they're easily visible, even at night.  Even when dragged by your car, they regain their original shape remarkably well.

Wait.  I just re-read the title of this thread.  I thought it said Best Cone Artist of All Time.  Nevermind...

EDIT - Ok.  I posted this before I read the rest of the threads.  I did not see the Best Cone Artist thread.  Had I done so, I might have perceived that this post was completely and totally irrelevant and somewhat stupid (more than usual).  I am now wearing a cone shaped hat and sitting in the corner.  Somehow, that seems oddly appropriate...

Nope, politicians are terrible con men.  You can always tell when a politician is lying because their lips are moving.  [That's an old joke, but a classic.]

It's not so noticeable since plastic surgery became more common though.

Maybe not the best, but Allen Klein hid a carefully worded clause in his contract with The Rolling Stones that GAVE him copyright to everything they wrote until 1970.  They have to pay him for permission to perform most of their popular music!!

    Agreed on the Devil....

On this planet....I would have to say Abraham Epstein for thinking up the Social Security plan. The BIGGEST con game in the history of the world.

The term Social Security, was first used in the U.S. by Abraham Epstein in connection with his group, the American Association for Social Security. Originally, the Social Security Act of 1935 was named the Economic Security Act, but this title was changed during Congressional consideration of the bill.

Speaking of conmen, I must have watched The Sting at least seven or eight times.

And I still can't work out exactly what happened there at the end

Some people need at least nine viewings Steve.  It's ok to watch it again.

Craig, I thought I'd sussed it after a couple of viewings, but now I'm not so sure.
