Disapearing Midi sources

Hello All,

I am using sonar 8.3 studio on a pc.  I have recently installed the motu micro book.  Now when I try to select midi input and output, the only thing available to me are my midi cables that  are plugged into the computer.  I can no longer select any midi sounds from the computer.  Motu does not appear in the drop down menus (I don't know if it should or not)  All recording is fine.  I'm recording rehearsal tracks for my choir and need to hear the melody line I'm singing and the piano part as well.  right now I keep switching my ear phones.  I plug them into the keyboard to hear the sounds to record and then back into my speakers to hear what I just recorded which is my vocal only.

Does anyone know how I can get back the midi sounds from my computer as an input output source?
Thanks,

Michael

that unit has no midi ports though ? in ASIO mode you only can have 1 card selected.. in "advanced" you'll see all cards / midi listed BUT you have to run in WDM etc. I don't think that is the right interface for what you want it to do. the midi sounds your using what ? a keyboard with sounds or the GM thing in the PC ? have a look in the midi setup.. as that motu , by the looks of it only does audio.

I think you are right about the motu only being audio which is fine, but I still need to hear the music (currently from a midi file) while I sing the bass parts.  Perhaps I'll select WDM and let it run a scan.  It does not matter what the midi sounds like I just need to hear something!

You computers on board MIDI ( MS Wavetable) is only available in MME mode which is not recommended for quality work. Use soft synths like the TTS-1 for midi when using ASIO mode.

Thank you, that clears that up.  Now if I could only get sound out of the soft synths I'd be laughing!

Hey, it was only a few years ago I still used on board midi, The TTS-1 , is a much better synth. Open the little mixer and you can edit each sound as well as there are many extra features hidden there if you explore. You can even edit the Reverb and you can tune the drum sounds. It's an amazing little feature and most don't even explore it's capabilities to far. I find I don;t need much else. We used to pay a lot of bucks for a sound module that does what it can do.
