Eureka - New Rig is working well for X1

When I stumble on a good combo, I like to share it because I know what it's like to struggle through a PC setup that doesn't play nice with the DAW.  I recently put a system together with the following specs and I'm happy to report Sonar X1b-build 255 (64bit)is performing like a complete beast. 8 hours in, not a single pop, click or stumble. VSTs play extremely well with no bounced or frozed tracks needed.  I've been using Sonar since Sonar 3 and I've never had a DAW that performed this flawlessly. As an example, I opened a previous project that ran at 81% CPU usage on my former Intel Core 2 Duo system, and it runs 8 CPU cores at about 2-3%.

I hope I didn't jinx myself, but here it is if anyone is looking to build a new DAW-

CPU: Intel i7 Sandy 3.4ghz 2600k (NOT OC)
Motherboard: EVGA P67 SLI - latest bios
Memory:  16gb Corsair Vengance (2x4) DDR 3 @ 1866 mhz (stock XMP profile)
OS: Win 7 Pro x64 SP1 w/all updates (optimized for audio)
Hard disks: O/S WD Caviar 500gb SATA III, Samples - 1TB WD Caviar SATA II and 1.5TB Seagate SATA II
Focusrite Saffire Pro 40 - 2.2 drivers
Nevana UAD 1 (dual PCI-e): 5.91 drivers
Nvidia 8800 GT display: latest Geforce drivers

My pc is an off-the-shelf HP Core 2 Duo with 4 gigs of RAM. It runs Sonar flawlessly. It has never crashed. It never glitches. I record for many hours without any problems.

My advice to getting Sonar to play nice on an older machine:
    No anti-virus
    No firewall
    No non-essential services
    No internet
    No nothing except Sonar.

You do NOT need a state-of-the-art computer with umpteen terabytes of everything. Just optimize the pc for audio, and only use it for audio. Play games and surf on another computer.

    'Nuff said.

Sonar X2 Producer. Focusrite Saffire 6, Fender Strat, black PC for recording and mixing. That is all.

Well good on ya then! Unfortunately, I've not had the luck you've had. Sure, my Core 2 Duo with 4 GB of RAM ran Sonar for me. It ran Sonar for me for 5 years.  I just had to change the way I did things because of limitations.  For example, I frequently use Superior, BFD 2, SSD in my projects.  As I worked at mixing my stuff, I almost ALWAYS had to freeze the synths to free up additional bandwidth for effects.  Now, is Sonar broken-  absolutely not.  Is hitting a wall fun - no way.  Sonar will run fine on a laptop, you'll just hit a wall much more quickly.  What I've found with this most recent set up is that I've not hit a wall or had to dial back a single thing, which is a first for me with Sonar, Cubase or even Pro Tools- hence the recommendation!
