Highs and Lows

Hi,

This poured out of me tonight.

http://snd.sc/qr3sT3

Those that know me will know that my son has been living with chronic kidney failure for the last few years. He went into hospital for a transplant about 2 weeks ago and it was all looking great until Sunday when he suddenly needed emergency surgery. It turned out he had massive internal bleeding and they had to remove the kidney. He's still under sedation in hospital, his mum is there just now and I'm at home looking after his little brother. I sat down at the piano and this kind of just came out.

The outlook is positive - he is now stable and if everything goes according to plan he will be no worse off after his ordeal than he was before it.

I'm not writing this to receive outpourings of sympathy but sometimes there are things that just need to be shared.

Thanks in advance for listening.

Terry.

Hi Terry, a little sympathy goes a long way so, best wishes to all of you , just have to hope for the best.  Now to the music., this is great stuff, very dramatic sounding even if you don't know the story behind it. Well done .

    Greetings, Rik

Good luck with your son Terry. Hope it all works out for you and he.
My only nit with the song is that I couldn't get it louder.

Yes, lovely tune there and yes, still I hear the stress in it, although it's a lovely tune.

Perhaps the doctors should be looked at also, with a somewhat glaring eye also. Of course to me, they perhaps should know more about what they are doing, than perhaps they are doing. But not knowing all the issues surrounding your son, I hope the best for your son, and as for your piano playing, hey, I may just be getting a little bit jealous there.

Second opinions though may be needed on both accounts.

Thanks for all the messages of support.

@Timidi - sorry about the volume. I tend to record my piano without boosting or limiting anything and this does hit -0.1dB at it's loudest, but most of it is quiet. thanks for good luck wishes

@spacealf - thanks for the compliments on the music. I agree about the doctors but that is a matter to be taken up when he is out of hospital and the immediate crisis has passed.

    Thanks again,
    Terry.

Sorry I couldn't get to this yesterday.  It's hauntingly beautiful.  I just love it when we can express our emotions at the piano like you've done so amazingly here.  I hope things go well for your son, and soon.  Let us know.

Terry, This was an absolutely heart felt piece. You made the piano almost cry. It is a great way to release emotions without the use of words. Great stuff!! Love it.

Hope your son is doing better today!

    Hi,

@Janet - I was going to sit down and play some thumping Beethoven (which is almost always cathartic!) but writing this was even better. Thanks for the comments - it's the first time anything I've written has been called 'hauntingly beautiful'. ;-)

@John - thanks. This was very cathartic - I just need to actually let my son hear it now (he wants to) when he's a bit better.

Thanks to everyone for your well wishes - he is starting to look and feel a bit more human now and is hopefully well on the road to recovery.

    Cheers,
    Terry.

That's good to hear, Terry.  I was just wondering about him earlier today.  Does it look like the transplant will be happening any time soon?

No transplant soon. Because the kidney they had transplanted needed to be removed he's now got to go back on the waiting list for another kidney so it's back on dialysis for the foreseeable future. Essentially he's gone through hell just to end up back at square one.

Oh, I'm sorry...I didn't understand that it was the new kidney they had to remove.  Well, that's too bad.  Hopefully there will be another one available soon.

Yea, I'm sorry. I didn't make it clear in the original post - I was not really firing on all cylinders at the time.

    Hi,

@jamesyoyo - yes it is quite melancholic. I hope it hasn't made anyone depressed while listening! Thanks for your comments and well wishes.

@Wookiee - thanks, I'm taking that as a compliment! Thanks for having us in your thoughts.

Thanks to everyone for listening and commenting, and especially for your thoughts and prayers, it really means a lot. We're hoping he'll be home by Friday because he is recuperating really well and he even seems to have come to terms quite quickly with the fact that the transplant failed, although we'll be keeping an eye on his emotional state as closely as possible with a 16 yr old.

I've had more comments about the emotions this track evokes than with any other track I've posted and I guess it's because it's not just a sad/stressed/poignant piece of music standing by itself but because there's a sad story (which is still ongoing) behind the 'inspiration' (or desperation ;-) ) of it.

    Thanks again,
    Terry.
