Guitar Tracks Pro 4 MIDI instrument configuration

I have a thread documenting the "surprises" I got with the product once installed in contrast with hype and promises.

Here, I want to establish whether I can get any value out of the MIDI options, the other reason I bought GTP4.

The documentation is again a big part of the problem, because the documents are never written with GTP4-specific instructions. Most documents I have seen have "Sonar X1" or "Other Cakewalk" products, but neither describe accurately the GTP4 interface features, options and or interface options.

Since it was "only" $85, I guess if I can get my Alesis QX49 Midi keyboard working, this was the most important reason for this purchase. I hope that my experiences will help others, including Cakewalk, who can perhaps discover problems that cropped up during the massive changes towards their simplified product selections. I applaud their overall vision, but the legacy still exists, and I paid for products that have legacy issues, and I am experiencing not the fruits of the new vision, but the reasons the new vision was required.

I need to have instructions on setting up an MIDI keyboard in Guitar Tracks Pro 4. I can't find them.

I'm sorry, I need instructions because the tutorial directs me to open a blank template. I do that, but a nag window tells me that the Guitar Rig plugin is missing. I select "ok" and the window goes away, but it is not clear what it did. Do I have a project open or not?

I am the most unfortunate user, finding a continuous stream of problems making this software unusable.

From the "Guitar Tracks Pro 4 Getting Started.PDF file on my DVD:

Adding an instrument track to your project
The easiest way to add an Instrument track is to use the Insert Track Assistant. For
this exercise, we'll start with a blank project.
1. On the File menu, click New.
2. Select the Blank (no tracks or buses) template and click OK.
A new project opens.
3. Click the New Track button at the top-left of the Control Bar

--------

On my system, I create a new project, and after the project is named, the state or display is unchanged. I thought it was a blank project I could insert a track in to, but when I try to insert a track, it repeats the identical process as if there was no project open (it prompts me to name the project again).

This might be fixed, the documentation reflects 4.0.5 after the settings are somehow changed by opening the application (after the patch is installed) while holding down the control button on the keyboard. So the MIDI is not yet fixed but the problem specific to the

Problem now behaves properly by allowing me to choose a track. It seems like it is a problem with the update, or is fixed when the update is completed.

There are 2 more possible problems and fixes, the driver for the Edirol UA4FX may be a source of the problem. The Edirol is not presented as an option in the MIDI settings.

The MIDI works from the software interface with another Audio MIDI interface, my M-Audio Black Box, but not correctly. The keyboard has 1 key out of the 49 that creates a note event, and the 4 pads also work, but the other 48 keys do not do anything.
